GREAT LAKES ANNOUNCES PRICE INCREASE FOR A RANGE OF BROMINATED FLAME RETARDANTS
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA—Great Lakes Chemical Corporation (NYSE:GLK) today announced that effective for all shipments after April 1, 2004, where contracts allow, the company will increase the price for pentabromodiphenyl oxide based flame retardants and all grades of brominated carbonate oligomers by $0.10/lb or $220/MT globally.
The company stated that the new pricing is due to the recent increase in energy and raw material costs.
Prices will increase for Great Lakes DE-71™, Great Lakes DE-60F™ Special, Great Lakes DE-61™, and Great Lakes DE-62™ pentabromodiphenyl oxide flame retardants and all grades of Great Lakes BC-52™ and BC-58™ brominated carbonate oligomer flame retardants.
Pentabromodiphenyl oxide products provide the highest level of flame retardant performance for flexible polyurethane foam applications such as commercial furnishings and automotive foams. Brominated carbonate oligomers are used to flame retard thermoplastic resin systems such as polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and certain grades of polycarbonate (PC).
