Thermoplastic elastomers from Kraiburg TPE for automotive interior applications
Sensitivity to emissions in automotive interiors has been a topic since the early 1980s. This was in particular caused by the formation of undesired condensation on the inside of windshields of new vehicles. As a result, the focus was initially on achieving specific fogging values. The requirements for interior components have been extended and have become more sophisticated over the years. Various analytical test standards were gradually developed to ensure compliance with emission standards. Odor has become a more critical issue for both automotive manufacturers and consumers. The general opinion on regional differences relating to the issue of odor that has been expressed during conferences and meetings coincides with KRAIBURG TPE’s internal experiences: While odor, or rather the requirement to have no odor, has top priority in Asia, in Europe the focus is primarily on single substances and total emissions inside motor vehicles‘ cabins. In North America, the debate about odor and emission is led with lower dynamism.

Circutor SA, based in Spain, has chosen to use a compound of the THERMOLAST® K family for the outer cover of its new MYeBOX® power analyzers. These thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) combine cost-efficient processing with excellent adhesion to polycarbonate. They protect the portable devices against shock and impact and are certified according to UL94 HB.

Strategic focus on medical applications
In line with KRAIBURG TPE’s 2019 strategy to increase its focus on medical applications and pharmaceutical packaging, the company recently collaborated with Eastman to develop a range of innovative high-purity TPEs. In close cooperation with Eastman, KRAIBURG TPE has developed a range of THERMOLAST® M thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) with the capability to adhere directly to specialized polymers used in medical applications, including Eastman’s Tritan™ copolyester, PP, ABS, ABS/PC, and PET.

KRAIBURG TPE THERMOLAST® K helps Askoll innovate the e-mobility of power-assisted bikes and electro-scooters
Italy’s leading manufacturer of electric two-wheelers has specified the use of THERMOLAST® K for two precision gasketing applications on the new battery boxes of a growing range of power-assisted bikes and electro-scooters. Askoll, based in Dueville (Vicenza, Italy) is using the thermoplastic elastomer material from KRAIBURG TPE for an anti-rattle overmolding of the battery connector and for water-tight sealing of the battery box. Key requirements to be met included reliable direct adhesion to glass-filled PBT on small contact surfaces.
