Next-generation polypropylene clarifying agent set to give premium container maker a new edge

Milliken Showcases Global Leadership in Polyolefin Enhancement with Launch of New Hyperform® Reinforcing Agent
Gent, Belgium – 15 September, 2009 – With the recent decision of the European Parliament setting CO2 emission performance standards for new passenger cars in the form of Regulation (EC) No 443/2009, weight reduction promises to become even more imperative for the automotive industry. To help automakers and suppliers achieve greater weight reduction, Milliken Chemical, a division of Milliken & Company, is introducing Hyperform® HPR-803 high performance reinforcing agent for polyolefins. New Hyperform HPR-803 reduces weight by up to 15 percent vs. traditional mineral-filled systems while delivering an outstanding balance of stiffness and impact strength. Further, the new Milliken agent offers comparable surface finish to talc-filled compounds that cannot be achieved with chopped glass fiber reinforcement. Suggar’s washing machines clean up the competition with stylish, transparent top doors featuring Polypropylene clarified with Milliken’s Millad® NX8000
Milliken Chemical, a division of Milliken & Company, today announced that Suggar, a leading appliance maker in Brazil producing 2,500 washing machines a day, is using polypropylene (PP) clarified with Millad® NX8000 to replace styrene acrylonitrile (SAN) in three of its most popular washer models: the Top Max 5.0, the Viva, and the Viva Max 6.0. By upgrading the existing washer top doors to PP clarified with Millad NX8000, which delivers previously unattainable levels of clarity, Suggar has provided the transparency that customers desire while significantly improving impact resistance for better durability. Further, due to lower density, the clarified PP is equivalent in cost to the SAN resin.
