Nilit Introduces Antimicrobial Yarn for Activewear

Milliken’s AlphaSan® Agent Aids in Odor Protection

Nilit Ltd., a global provider of yarns and microfibers, has introduced Sensil Bodyfresh, a yarn which incorporates Milliken’s AlphaSan® antimicrobial agent to combat odor in activewear.

“By incorporating AlphaSan into our yarn, we can offer apparel manufacturers a fine microfiber yarn which promises increased freshness through effective antimicrobial protection,” said Oded Breier, marketing manager for Nilit. “Our antimicrobial microfiber assists in controlling odor, making the product more attractive to sportspeople and outdoor enthusiasts.”

Nilit recognized a demand in the marketplace for antibacterial yarn and tested several antimicrobials seeking a product that could provide high temperature stability and wash resistance.

“Because AlphaSan can be processed into the body of a Nylon 6.6 yarn during the fiber formation process, it was the best choice for our product,” Breier said. “The AlphaSan agent also offers benefits in terms of durability as the BodyFresh yarn will retain its antimicrobial properties through at least

50 washings.

“Sensil BodyFresh promises increased freshness through effective antimicrobial action,” he continued. “AlphaSan’s qualities, coupled with our fine yarn, results in high-performance garments that keep pace with an active lifestyle.”

AlphaSan anti-microbial agent uses advanced silver-based technology to inhibit the growth of bacteria, mildew, mold and other microorganisms that can cause odors, discoloration and deterioration of various consumer and commercial products. AlphaSan is used in a wide range of consumer goods, such as apparel and whirlpool tubs, as well as commercial applications, primarily food and beverage processing and commercial icemaking equipment.

Headquartered in Israel, Nilit, Ltd. works closely with its international customer base from offices in Italy, the United States, France and South America. Nilit’s nylon 6.6 yarns and microfiber yarns are available in a broad selection of decitex and filament counts, layer of luster and types of cross sections. Nilit’s high-quality yarns are used in the production of knitted and spandex fashionable legwear and bodywear.
