Cleaner, efficient production for Grupo Losán particleboard with new Milliken colorant
Grupo Losán has switched to a new polymeric colorant from Milliken Chemical to ensure a more efficient, environmentally- and user-friendly production process for its moisture-resistant particleboard. Thanks to the new colorant, Grupo Losán, one of the largest producers of particleboard in Spain, has successfully eliminated previous handling issues to achieve a smoother, more reliable and cleaner process for both its workforce and for the environment.
Moisture-resistant particleboard is used in outdoor applications or under-cover structures, such as kitchen and bathroom furniture, where moisture resistance is key. It is typically colored green to differentiate it from regular wood boards.
To improve the coloration process, Grupo Losán turned to Milliken Chemical’s new range of polymeric colorants designed specifically for the particleboard, MDF and OSB industries, because of the wide range of environmental, processing and user benefits on offer.
Milliken’s newly developed polymeric colorants are water soluble, low viscosity, non-settling liquids. No agitation is required prior to use and colorants can be dosed without pre-dilution, simplifying production and avoiding excess water use in the press process. Non-staining to both skin and equipment, the colorants provides a cleaner working environment. Furthermore, production runs are more reliable as the low viscosity of polymeric colorant reduces equipment clogging issues and avoids potential disruptions.
Milliken Chemical’s Polymeric Colorant range is just one of the innovative products Milliken Chemical has developed to meet specific market needs.
Antonio Colmena, Plant Manager of the Grupo Losán plant of Pina, Cuenca comments: “The introduction of a polymeric colorant to color the moisture-resistant boards offers a great improvement to the smooth-running of the production process. It also represents Grupo Losán’s commitment to environmental safety with the introduction of an environmentally-friendly, non toxic colorant that is user-friendly for the workforce.”
