HPI leads home organizer industry with brighter, clearer storage totes featuring Milliken’s Millad® NX8000 clarifier
Ghent, Belgium – 13 October 2010 – Home Products International (HPI), a major home organizer manufacturer, has taken the lead in meeting consumer demand for containers with an attractive, high-quality appearance. By upgrading to polypropylene (PP) clarified with Millad® NX8000 technology from Milliken, HPI created a successful new line of “Clears” storage totes featuring a bright, clean look. By utilizing clarified PP, an easily recycled, environmentally friendly plastic, HPI also addressed strong consumer interest in sustainable materials. Further, the company, which moulds the storage totes at its facility in Chicago, Ill., benefits from lower energy consumption and shorter cycle times made possible by Millad NX8000’s wider processing window.
HPI “Clears” storage totes, available from leading retailers, stand out from the competition with their bright appearance, see-through practicality and clean, fresh look. In addition to strikingly improved aesthetics provided by Millad NX8000 clarifier, PP delivers performance benefits which include increased material strength and rigidity and improved heat and chemical resistance for longer product life.
“Upgrading to Millad NX8000 is enabling HPI to achieve several critical business objectives,” said George Hamilton, chief executive officer, HPI. “First, our new “Clears” line, which has received great feedback from retailers, demonstrates our technological innovation and product differentiation, and opens the door to a larger share of the market. Second, utilizing this ultra-clear and bright material keeps us in the forefront of consumer trends toward greater safety, cleanliness and quality. Our ongoing collaboration with Milliken has helped HPI create a winning product and is a crucial factor in our market growth and industry leadership.”
“Housewares is a major market sector for Milliken, and we share HPI’s excitement about the great results they achieved with our Millad NX8000 technology,” said Brian Burkhart, global market manager, Milliken. “HPI is the first storage tote manufacturer to upgrade to our new clarifier, demonstrating its leadership in meeting current and future consumer demands for a combination of performance, quality and environmental responsibility.”
High Clarity and Efficient Processing
Millad NX8000 clarifier provides excellent clarity with a brighter, cleaner look. This combination is perceived as fresher, more sanitary and more attractive.
Polypropylene clarified with Millad NX8000 technology supports environmental goals in two ways: with its lower density, PP requires less resin than other clear polymers, reducing the amount of non-renewable resources used in manufacturing; and can be recycled in the existing waste management infrastructure.
Millad NX8000 also provides a wide processing window that ensures high performance in a wide range of PP grades. This broad processing window has been shown to support energy savings and cycle time reduction of up to 10 percent each.
