18 November 2025 – Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging and paper, is strengthening its position as a trusted partner for the food industry with the launch of an extended food packaging portfolio. The portfolio now includes solid board solutions and digital printing capabilities following the acquisition of Schumacher Packaging, enhancing Mondi’s ability to serve customers across Europe.

This expansion enables Mondi to support customers in meeting evolving consumer expectations, EU regulations and the growing demand for sustainable, convenient and stand-out packaging.
Responding to key industry trends
Mondi’s extended offering is designed to address the most important trends shaping the food packaging industry today:
- Lightweighting and smaller portions – optimised material use, smaller packs and lighter, high-performance fibre-based materials for consumer convenience.
- Retail Ready Packaging (RRP) and point-of-sale displays – solutions that improve brand recognition, enhance shelf visibility and ensure efficiency in packing and replenishment processes.
- Sustainability – packaging designed to be 100% renewable or recyclable, in line with EU directives such as the PPWR, supporting circularity and meeting the packaging eco-design requirements for retailers’ private-label brands and manufacturers’ own brands.
“The food sector is undergoing rapid change, with sustainability targets, EU legislation and shifting consumer behaviours all driving new requirements for packaging. By expanding our portfolio, we can help customers respond to these trends with solutions that are lighter, more sustainable and optimised for shelf appeal,” says Paulus Goëss, Chief Operating Officer Corrugated Solutions, Mondi.

The portfolio combines corrugated solutions for transport, retail-ready packaging, and eCommerce with solid board formats used for frozen food applications requiring rigidity and high-quality printing.
What packaging solutions support retail-ready packaging and efficient shelf replenishment?
Retail-ready packaging and efficient shelf replenishment are supported by corrugated trays, shelf-ready boxes, and display-ready formats designed for fast handling and restocking. These solutions are used across multiple food segments to improve operational efficiency and shelf presentation, including formats available within Mondi’s food packaging portfolio.
How does six-colour digital printing improve shelf visibility in food packaging?
Six-colour digital printing improves shelf visibility in food packaging by enabling clearer branding and visual differentiation on corrugated and solid board substrates, including brown materials.
