13 April 2026 – Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging and paper, has reached one year of Zero Waste to Landfill operations at its Neusiedler mill in Austria. The mill has now operated for 12 consecutive months without sending any manufacturing waste to landfill, reinforcing its commitment to circular manufacturing.
Efficient manufacturing and responsible waste management have long been priorities at the site. Through a successful collaboration with a recycling partner, wood ash from the recovery boiler previously destined for landfill is given a second life. Following a treatment process and rigorous quality assurance, this material is transformed by the mill’s recycling partner and supplied to the cement industry, where they are utilised as additives in cement production.
This achievement has not only eliminated landfill waste from manufacturing processes but also kept valuable resources in circulation, reinforcing Mondi’s commitment to circularity and sustainable solutions. It directly supports Mondi’s sustainability framework, the Mondi Action Plan 2030 (MAP2030), which focuses on circular solutions, empowered people and climate action. It also supports Mondi’s Group-wide ambition to reduce waste and increase circular solutions across its operations.
“We are proud to have achieved one year of waste-free operations at Neusiedler. This milestone sets a benchmark for environmental sustainability and benefits both the environment and our customers, helping them to build more sustainable supply chains. We will continue to explore further opportunities to improve resource efficiency,” says Florian Doebl, Managing Director of Mondi Neusiedler.
With one year of landfill-free operations, the Neusiedler mill further strengthens its position as a sustainable partner for its professional print and technical and converting paper customers. The site joins Mondi’s Frantschach mill, which has already operated as a Zero Waste to Landfill site for several years.
