NATRIP SELECTS MOOG FOR LARGEST ORDER IN INDIA FOR SUPPLY OF LEADING-EDGE AUTOMOTIVE TEST EQUIPMENT

Moog to supply structural and fatigue test systems to ambitious government initiative to create state-of-the-art R&D, testing and validation Infrastructure in India

East Aurora, NY, USA, 25 May 2011 – The Industrial Group of Moog Inc. (NYSE: MOG.A and MOG.B) announced today that the company has been awarded a contract to supply structural and fatigue test systems to the National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRiP) in India. This project will create state-of-the-art automotive research and development, testing and validation infrastructure for the rapidly developing automotive industry in India. Moog’s advanced test systems will enable automotive OEMs and component manufacturers to have the most modern test facilities to meet international standards and significantly reduce the development time for new vehicles.

NATRiP is an initiative of the Indian Government in the automotive sector for providing testing and R&D facilities to automobile manufacturers and component suppliers to establish India as an automotive testing and R&D hub in the long term. By making such facilities available, the NATRiP project aims to provide a boost to manufacturing and exports from India, as these testing facilities can be leveraged by OEM’s and component manufacturers to bring-to-market innovative and high-quality automotive products.

Moog’s servo hydraulic test systems for NATRiP include Hydraulic Simulation Tables (also known as MAST or multi-axis shaker tables), Tire Coupled Simulation Systems (four-posters, x-posters), Universal Test Benches (UTBs) and Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs). Moog’s systems will deploy the latest control technology to enable simulation of road data on automotive components and fully built vehicles. These systems allow simulation of on-road load conditions in the laboratory and reproduce the fatigue experienced by vehicles in actual road conditions.

The Moog Tired Coupled Simulation and Hydraulic Simulation Table fatigue test systems will be equipped with state-of-the-art environmental chambers that reproduce and subject the vehicles to conditions like extreme temperatures, sunlight and humidity - all of which are critical for testing the vehicle fatigue life.

The Moog contract will be managed by Moog India with engineering support from Moog in the United States, Europe and China.

“The automotive markets constantly require new test solutions, high-performance equipment and more innovative approaches. We are excited to bring our global resources together to support this project,” said Lars Rasmussen, General Manager — Asia-Pacific at Moog.

In addition to this significant order, the company has recently worked with the Indian Railways to supply test equipment that boosts freight capacity. Additionally, Moog has extensive expertise and experience is supplying test equipment to the defense and aerospace industries. Moog’s test and simulation offerings also include driving simulators and ride and handling systems which incorporate some of the most advanced testing technology known as ‘Human-in-Loop’ testing – where the focus is on including the human factor at an early stage in the vehicle development cycle.
