MOOG OPENS NEW FACILITY FOR THE DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING OF BALL SCREWS AND ROLLER SCREWS IN LINEAR SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY
East Aurora, NY, USA, October 28, 2013 – Moog Industrial Group, a division of Moog Inc. (NYSE: MOG.A and MOG.B) that specializes in motion control solutions for industrial machinery, today opens its new facility in Bergamo. Italy for the design and manufacturing of ball screws and roller screws, used in linear systems for industrial machinery. The new facility enables the company to expand its range of offerings including:
• Ball Screws with diameters from 12 mm (0.47 in) to 100 mm (3.93 in) and lengths up to 6 m (6.56 yd)
• Roller Screws with diameters from 15 mm (0.59 in) to 87 mm (3.42 in) and lengths up to 4 m (4.37 yd) for planetary roller screws.
Ball Screws and Roller Screws are used in many industrial applications where linear motion control is required such as industrial machines, heavy industry, simulation systems, metal forming and plastics machines. Typically these systems are used in high performance applications where low noise, high precision and high load capacity are required.
Moog has been operating in Italy for over 40 years with multiple sites for manufacturing, repairs and customer service. The new factory in Bergamo will double its space from 1,350 m2 (14,532 ft2) to 2,650 m2 (28,525 ft2) which enables a more efficient layout to optimize processes, thereby ensuring the highest quality and prompt delivery time of products. This facility will be a design and manufacturing center for ball screw and roller screw technology (class 3) in accordance with ISO 3408, which ensures globally certified quality systems. Moog will soon commission a new grinding process (ISO 1 class) for manufacturing roller screws with an excellent cost/benefit ratio.
Moog has also installed a new test bench, developed entirely in-house, which enables it to offer machine builders an additional service to measure key operating parameters. This service involves certifying the quality of the screws and offering design engineers the support needed to measure and define the range of parameters required to optimize their systems.
Roberto Donghi, operations and logistics manager of Moog Bergamo says: “This is an expansion that strengthens the overall manufacturing structure, enabling the development of new technological solutions and world-class quality products with an environmentally-friendly approach. The factory has modern air-conditioning, compressed-air and extraction systems that are highly efficient in terms of energy and performance levels, to do our part for sustainability.”
