PPG Further Develops in China and Plans to Build a Resin Plant
PPG Coatings Zhangjiagang Co., Ltd. Holds Ground Breaking Ceremony
Feb. 25 2007, PPG Industries, the world's leading manufacturer of coatings, glass and chemicals, held a ground breaking ceremony in Zhangjiagang and plans to build up the first resin plant in China. The Party Secretary, mayor and chief officers of Zhangjiagang government as well as officers from Zhangjiagang bonded area attended the ceremony and highly appraised the scope and technologies of PPG.
Resins are main raw materials in all of PPG coatings products, and currently a majority of resins are imported from outside of China. The resin plant to be built in China will continue to supply PPG coatings plants in China with raw materials of consitent quality, but faster, at lower cost. It will be able to make all of the main PPG resins with state of the art technology and serve all coatings business to better meet the the growing demand of the local market.
The new plant under plan is to be located at Zhangjiagang Yangtz Int’l Chemical Industry Park. The first phase of the project occupies 60,000 m2 and initial construction of fence and some utilities will start immediately. The construction of main facility is going to start in the 4th Quarter of 2007 and is estimated to finalize within 1 full year.
Besides bringing the most advanced equipment and technology, PPG is committed to operating this facility in accordance with all local regulations and with the most care of Environment, Health and Safety like other PPG plants in China. This will ensure PPG's continued growth in China while delivering high quliaty products on time.
"We chose Zhangjiagang because of its economic and geographic strength, the new resin plant will integrate the local supply chains, reduce cost and enhance industry competitiveness of the company. Moreover, the local production will improve responsiveness and serve our customers better." said John Richter, the global operations director of PPG, at the opening ceremony, "all of PPG's Coatings customers in China will benefit from having our resins made locally.”
The new plant demonstrates again PPG’s confidence on investment in China, which reinforced what Mr. Viktor R. Sekmakas, president of Asia-Pacific stated “Carrying on the strong growth in 2006, we shall continue to invest significantly with commitment in China and Asia. Our Asia Pacific leadership team will take positive actions to drive profitable growth.”
