PPG receives “Friendship Award” from Shandong Government
PPG's performance glazings strategic business unit (SBU) has received a special "Friendship Award" from China's Shandong Provincial People's Government for its "contributions and dedication to Shandong’s social development and economic construction."
PPG was one of 18 award winners from around the globe. The winners represented academic, medical, architectural, agricultural and industrial businesses from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Japan, Russia, South Korea and the United States.
The award recognizes PPG's four-year working relationship with the Shandong Glass Group (SGG), a glass manufacturer in Eastern China (between Beijing and Shanghai) which has been licensed to use PPG technologies.
"SGG has done a great job applying PPG’s glass technologies and manufacturing expertise and has become very successful in China's glass market," said Bill Klingensmith, director of business development, performance glazings, who accepted the award at a ceremony in Shangdong. "I am honored and appreciative of the strong support that I have received from both PPG and SGG in developing our business relationship. I believe the relationship between our two companies will continue to offer us growth opportunities in the China market."
PPG is negotiating with SGG to launch a joint venture to manufacture low-emissivity (low-E) glass coatings for energy efficient windows.
PPG's performance glazings SBU was praised in a letter to Klingensmith from Ding Juming, director of the Shandong Provincial Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs: "Since you came to Shandong, you have achieved excellent success through hard working and contributed to the friendly exchanges and cooperation between our two countries. What you have done has won appreciation and respect of your Chinese colleagues."
