PPG construction market team participates in 2008 Global Construction Summit
Global leader in ‘green’ building products showcases solutions in China
BEIJING, April 10, 2008 – PPG Industries (NYSE: PPG), a global leader in glass, coatings and paints technology, showcased its Construction Market Team (CMT) solutions at the 2008 Global Construction Summit in the Kerry Center today.
Dennis Yu, manager, PPG CMT, participated in panel discussions on the future of the global construction business. Topics discussed included strategies for growth, key sustainable development trends, best practices for building local partnerships in the international market, nurturing global talent, and emerging design trends and technology innovations.
“We are delighted to meet with global construction leaders and contribute to a more responsible approach in the industry,” Yu said. “PPG is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and we have set aggressive global energy-savings and greenhouse gas emissions-reduction goals. We will continue to invest in research and development to create high-performance, energy-efficient and environmentally-responsible architectural products.”
Yu said PPG is a leader in offering “optimized solutions” to local and international architects, designers, contractors and building owners to help address challenging environment and energy issues while enhancing the performance, durability and appearance of their structures.
In its booth, PPG featured products such as Solarban 60 glass, a solar-control, energy-saving glass with color neutral appearance; Solarban z50 glass, a new low-emissivity (low-E) glass that helps cut carbon dioxide emissions; sustainable metal coatings; and low-volatile organic compound (VOC) decorative coatings. The company’s experts and technicians shared information on product applications and discussed how PPG’s green and energy-saving architectural products can provide benefits.
PPG has reduced its energy use by more than one percent annually each of the last five years, saving about $40 million overall. The company aims to reduce its total energy intensity by 25 percent between 2006 and 2016 and its total global greenhouse gas emissions by 10 percent between 2006 and 2011, which will help save PPG as much as $20 million a year at today's energy prices.
The 2008 Global Construction Summit, themed “Building Alliances for Mutual Success,” builds upon the success of the 2004 and 2006 summits. More than 450 local and international architects, contractors, engineers, product manufacturers, green building consultants and policymakers participated.
