PPG donates to help ‘Warm Children’s Winter’

BEIJING, March 31, 2008 – PPG Industries (NYSE: PPG) employees in China have donated winter clothing for students in 20 schools in Nangqian County, Yushu, Qinghai Province, who were severely affected by the unusual winter storm this year. A thousand garments were collected to bring warmth to these children.

PPG China launched the "Warm Children's Winter" clothing donation project this year in response to the severe snowstorms that affected most of South China. Within a week almost 1,000 pieces of clothing were collected at facilities in Tianjin, Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou, Guangzhou and elsewhere. The garments were delivered to Yushu Qinghai through collaboration with the China Youth Care Foundation. Due to the milder climate and lack of winter clothing there, PPG associates in Hong Kong suggested donating money there instead of clothing.

“We are very pleased to be helping the affected children,” said Cathy Yan, PPG general manager, government affairs and business development, Asia/Pacific. “The collection and donation of the clothes is a reflection of PPG’s corporate social responsibility as well as our employees’ generosity. As an international company with a 125-year history, PPG strives both to develop healthy, safe and environmentally-sound products for various industries and applications and to support the communities where we operate as well as the global community.”
