PPG showcases wind energy products and services at Wind Power Asia 2008
Fiber glass and coatings for towers, turbine components and blades maximize wind efficiency
BEIJING, June 25, 2008 – PPG Industries (NYSE: PPG), one of the world’s largest suppliers of fiber glass and coatings, is showcasing its wind energy products and services at Wind Power Asia 2008, the 5th Asian Wind Energy Exhibition and Conference, in the Beijing Exhibition Center. PPG technologies on display in Booth 2057 include fiber glass reinforcements, blade coatings and tower coatings that enhance the efficiency, performance and longevity of key wind power components.
PPG’s wind energy team is composed of experts from the company’s global fiber glass and coatings businesses who understand the needs of the wind industry. The team provides customers with in-depth knowledge and services regarding the supply chain, high-performance materials, application equipment, manufacturing process and chemicals management.
PPG Fiber Glass provides tailor-made fiber glass reinforcements used in turbine blades around the world. Its unique chemical sizings help enhance the bond between fiber glass and resin, improve fatigue performance and allow a rapid and more complete wet-out of the fabric reinforcement.
PPG has long been committed to developing “green” coating technologies, such as waterborne liquids, low-volatile organic compound (VOC) and high-solids formulations, and powder coatings. PPG’s blade coating systems are available globally where blades are manufactured, and they are supported by PPG’s technical sales personnel and global distribution network.
A world leader in protective and marine coatings, PPG provides coating systems for the petrochemical, nuclear and wind energy markets. Its ISO 12944-compliant windmill coating systems have proven reliability in wind farms worldwide – both onshore and offshore – and require little maintenance.
PPG is dedicated to the wind energy market and is an active member of the American Wind Energy Association and the European Wind Energy Association. Part of PPG’s annual $300 million commitment to research and development is focused on the growth of its product offerings related to wind and other sustainable energy markets.
PPG also recognizes its responsibility to address the important issues of energy security and climate change. In 2007, PPG announced its intent to reduce its total energy intensity by 25 percent from 2006 to 2016 and its total global greenhouse gas emissions by 10 percent from 2006 to 2011. PPG’s dedication to reducing its environmental footprint and growing its support of the wind energy market demonstrates its corporate-wide commitment to improving the global environment and increasing the efficiency of its operations.
