Antibacterial Electrical Products Available Now

Although we use many different switches every day not many people realize that the switches they touch can also transmit disease. Bacteria present on our hands is transferred to a light switch once we touch it, bacteria accumulate on the switch and propagate. The bacteria are then transmitted to the next person who touches the switch. There can be many transfers and transmissions of infectious diseases through this method especially in public location. Polygiene technology from Perstorp AB of Sweden has been proven to kill many bacteria on contact and by doing so helps break the transmission path of disease.

A European electrical products producer, manufacturing product in China, for export, has recently introduced a range of electrical switches Polygiene a special compound with outstanding antibacterial properties. Polygiene has been proved to kill MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus), and many other bacteria, yeasts and molds, as well as the SARS corona virus.

Polygiene releases silver ions that attach themselves to the bacteria or virus, incapacitating them and preventing them from growing or reproducing. Unlike some other antibacterial agents, it is inorganic, and does not lead to allergic skin reactions. Products made in Polygiene also differ from other antibacterial products in that the active ingredient is distributed uniformly throughout the designed part, and not just on the surface. This means that, as opposed to a coating, it cannot wear off, and surface damage has no effect. Nor does the efficacy of Polygiene deteriorate over time.

Wiping it away using even the most thorough cleaning procedures is extremely difficult. But it is killed off within hours of contact with products moulded in Polygiene. Results of trials carried out at Milan University’s Institute of Microbiology published earlier this year showed that cultures containing MRSA put on plaques of Polygiene were killed off inside 24 hours, while cultures on sterile control plates continued to thrive. Bacteria known to be eliminated by Polygiene also include: Escheria Coli, Salmonella Typhi, Enterococcus Faecalis, Klebsiella Pneumoniae, Proteus Vulgaris, Pseudomonas Aeruginasa, and Streptococcus Pyogenes as well as the yeast Candida Albicans.

An increasing number of electrical products manufacturers are currently developing product ranges that incorporate Polygiene.
