PolyOne is sole supplier of FR ABS materials for Pressac Zeta 6 telecommunications and data transfer boxes
DÜSSELDORF, October 25, 2001 - PolyOne continues to successfully build business with UK-based electrical and electronic and decorative components manufacturer Pressac Communications Ltd, with the supply of its FR ABS materials for the Pressac’s Zeta 6 data products launched in March this year.
Since the formation of PolyOne Corporation, which resulted from the consolidation of M.A. Hanna Company and The Geon Company in September 2000, the company has continued to exploit the strengths of both businesses to the benefit of its’ customers. These include the materials technology contributed by M.A. Hanna’s outstanding portfolio of PA, TPE, PP, PC and other compounds, and Geon’s premier range of injection molding PVC and flame retardant ABS blends (FR ABS blends).
The selection of PolyOne materials for the Zeta 6 components came after Pressac’s evaluation against stringent performance criteria. Category 6 is a specification for network cabling systems to support both current and emerging high-speed communications protocols. Key is that Pressac Zeta 6 connectivity and cable products carry a 20-year warranty and therefore rely heavily on long-term, high performance materials.
“PolyOne is now the sole supplier of telecoms and data transfer box material for Pressac’s Zeta 6,” says Andrew Bastow, Business Development Manager, Telecommunications at PolyOne Engineered Materials UK Ltd.
According to Bastow: “We were able to deliver a high performance to cost ratio solution that neither compromises specification or quality. Cost was an important element as Pressac supplies products globally and this world-leading Category 6 product has to compete in a very tough international market. PolyOne’s contribution to this also includes the added value of high quality materials that minimize the need for inspection on delivery, full technical support and, a long-established relationship that is built on trust and mutual respect.”
PolyOne’s V0 rated, high gloss GEON® HTX FR ABS blend currently meets the demands of Pressac components that include: face plates and bevelled face plates, blanking plates, COMMS boxes, ADSL modules and data transfer products.
Key demands to be met by the GEON HTX were flame retardancy of V0 at 1.5mm thin wall sections, high izod impact at 23°C 48 Kj/m2 and good UV resistance. “Achieving exact color consistency was also vital,” explains Bastow. “The requirement was for ‘Telecom white’, which is a blue white, with a very close color tolerance delta e +/- 0.5. This is very difficult to achieve in standard types of FR ABS.”
