QUADRANT ENGINEERING PLASTIC PRODUCTS INTRODUCES NEXT GENERATION MATERIALS FOR SEMICONDUCTOR MANUFACTURING AND TEST APPLICATIONS

Semitron® CMP LL5 is one of the new materials developed by Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products to deliver longer production life in Chemical Mechanical Planarization retaining rings. Semitron CMP LL5 is an enhanced polyester developed with wear characteristics and inherent quality specifications geared to the semiconductor industry. Laboratory simulations show that Semitron CMP LL5 extends retaining ring-life by as much as 5 times over rings made of traditional PPS, depending on process conditions. The new product is also a lower cost alternative to PPS and suitable for use in all CMP processes, is ideal for use in ring designs that have steel or ceramic reinforcement. TIELT, BELGIUM – k 2004 – Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products (QEPP) has developed four new products to extend the production life and reliability of applications in Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) and in test and handling components. The company has also announced a development grade of an ultra high purity product available on a limited basis for co-development projects prior to commercialization planned for mid-2005.

PROVIDING INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS FROM FLUOROPLASTICS

The high pressure dual laminate absorption column withstands pressures between -1.0 bar (-14.7 psig) of vacuum and 3.1 bar (45 psig) of internal pressure. LENZBURG, SWITZERLAND – K 2004 – Fluoroplastics are well known under the Teflon brand name and most people are familiar with it as giving non-sticky properties in pans for household use. However, what many people do not know is that fluoroplastics find a much wider use in many industrial and non-industrial applications, having remarkable temperature, purity, high chemical and corrosion resistance properties that provide high performing, cost-efficient solutions for applications in industries like semiconductors, chemical processing, environmental and energy management or oil exploration. Under the SYMALIT brand name, Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products offers a number of fluoroplastics including plain sheets, fabric backed lining sheets, films, rods, and other forms made of materials such as PVDF, ECTFE, ETFE, FEP, MFA or PFA, all of which are fluoroplastics with distinctive performance qualities.

NO-STICK, NO-SLIP NYLATRON MATERIAL FROM QUADRANT EPP LIFTS PERFORMANCE OF TRUCK CRANES FROM FASSI GROUP

NYLATRON 703 XL nylon plate from Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products is a lubrication-free material for applications requiring precise, efficient, and safe motion control. The Fassi Group, one of the foremost manufacturers of hydraulic cranes, selected the material for its excellent combination of high strength and stiffness, very low static and dynamic coefficients of friction, its high wear resistance, and NYLATRON 703 XL’s unique property of ZERO stick-slip, which helped Fassi eliminate vibration in the booms of its cranes. TIELT, BELGIUM – September, 2004 – A crane’s ability to efficiently and safely position its load requires a virtual absence of vibration during both fine and gross movements of the boom. Lubrication of moving parts helps to achieve this, but more and more, heavy equipment manufacturers are searching for lubrication-free materials that minimize or even eliminate stick-slip influences during operation. The Fassi Group, one of Europe’s foremost manufacturers of hydraulic cranes, found its material solution in NYLATRON® 703 XL plate from Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products (QEPP).

BUSHINGS MADE FROM QUADRANT’S TECHTRON HPV PPS MATERIAL DELIVER RELIABLE PERFORMANCE DESPITE HIGH LOADS, HIGH TEMPERATURES AND PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO HARSH CHEMICALS

Quadrant EPP’s TECHTRON® HPV PPS self-lubricating material provided a reliable solution in a harsh extraction installation for DE SMET Group, S.A. of Brussels, Belgium. Forming the bushings that carry processed material against a counter-current of harsh solvents, TECHTRON HPV PPS delivers outstanding performance despite prolonged exposure to loads up to 90 MPa, temperatures up to 80ºC, and the continuous presence of grit and aggressive chemicals. TIELT, BELGIUM – September 2004 – An industrial process is only as efficient as the tools used to implement it. Bearings used in extreme conditions, such as prolonged contact with aggressive chemicals or abrasion-sensitive components, or under heavy mechanical loads, can no longer be lubricated once they are installed and the process is in operation. For DE SMET Group, S.A. of Brussels, Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products (QEPP) provides a solution to this problem with their new TECHTRON® HPV PPS material for bearings used in an extraction installation.

QUADRANT MATERIALS HELP BRIDGE TO SPAN THE 3 KM CORINTH GULF STRAIT FOR THE OLYMPIC GAMES IN GREECE

Construction of the Rion-Antirion Bridge (Greece), the longest cable-stayed bridge in the world has been completed in time for the 2004 Olympic Games thanks in part to materials from Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products (QEPP). TIELT, BELGIUM – August, 2004 – The Rion-Antirion Bridge constructed by Vinci Construction is now the longest cable-stayed bridge in the world with a continuous deck of 2,252 meters made of precast steel and concrete panels. Completed in time to convey the Olympic Torch, the structure is designed to guarantee resistance to seismic activities for 100 years and to sustain the impact of an 18,000 tons tanker sailing at 18 knots. Its most innovative feature, however, is the fully suspended continuous deck, able to move as a pendulum between four pylons. All future suspension bridges are likely to have similar requirements.
