Rapid TRACS provides 'clean room' air quality for granulators

Rapid Granulator AB, the world leader in plastics granulating equipment for plastics recycling, will be exhibiting its Rapid TRACS air cleaning system at K 2001. TRACS, which stands for Transport Recovery and Air Cleaning System, has proven itself highly successful at eliminating airborne particles as small as cigarette smoke in extensive commercial trials.

The dust which granulation inevitably generates poses a number of serious hazards to health, production and quality. Fine particles of less than 25m in diameter can coat the mucous membranes of the nose, mouth and lungs causing persistent coughs, phlegm and wheezing, as well as aggravating allergic reactions. Over the long term, this increases the risk of cardio-vascular illnesses. In terms of production, the risks that dust poses are increased wear and tear on machinery, and the associated rise in maintenance costs and downtime. In addition, dust degrades the quality of the end product as it can lead to discoloration or even weakening.

TRACS is a modular, compact and closed system which is the ideal complement to Rapid's medium to large granulators. The system operates with a suction blower which is located after the separation unit. This has three major benefits. The first is that it creates an under-pressure in the closed system which prevents dust leakage.

The second is that as the regrind doesn’t pass through the blower, wear on the components and blower housing is eliminated. The third is that noise is minimised as the regrind doesn't pass through the fan.

There are four standard TRACS models, with capacities ranging from 400 to 1,500 kg/h. As they are modular and have a number of different accessories, they can be customised to match any client's needs exactly. Although the space the systems occupies varies between models, all TRACS models have a notably small footprint which makes them easy to place and install.

As standards for both the internal and external environment get tougher, TRACS offers granulators an unrivalled solution which already matches 'clean room' levels of air quality and can help them to meet the requirements of the ISO 14001 standard for environmental quality.
