Rapid to use Fakuma for industry-wide introduction of innovative 150 Series granulators

Rapid Granulators AB, the global leader in granulation solutions for plastics recycling, will use Fakuma 2005 in Friedrichshafen, Germany, October 18-22, as the platform for the industry-wide introduction of its latest granulator innovation, the Rapid 150 Series. Although given a limited introduction in May this year, Fakuma will provide the first opportunity to demonstrate the new ‘no compromise’ Rapid 150 Series granulators to a broad plastics industry audience. Other products to be showcased on Rapid’s stand no. 7107, Hall B1, will include the 45, 26 and 20 series of granulators, as well as the GranuMATIC™ shredder.

The Rapid 150 granulator represents a significant step-development on the brand-leading 15 Series which has been the industry’s most popular granulator with more than 20,000 units installed worldwide. The new granulator has been developed in two versions; the Rapid 150 DeltaTech and the Rapid 150 PowerTech solutions for both tough and very tough regrinding demands.

According to Johan Magnusson, Sales & Marketing Director, Rapid Group: “The Rapid 150 Series raises productivity and regrind quality to an even higher level than was previously possible. An evolution in knife composition and cutting technology enables consistent regrind size with fewer fines, resulting in a more uniform melt, fewer rejected parts and lower production costs.”

Lowering cost for the operator was a fundamental design objective for the new series. In addition to improved regrind quality, this has been achieved by incorporating oversized bearings with high load factors to help eliminate bearing failure and consequent down time. The new series also addresses workplace environmental issues such as dust and noise. It features improved sealing between the hopper frame and cutter house and a dust-sealed granulate bin to maintain a clean atmosphere around the machine, while a soundproofing hood lowers noise emission to 70-75 dB(A), a level equating with conversation.

Rapid will also be featuring a range of their leading granulator systems at Fakuma including: the Rapid 4590 with integrated sound insulation and blower system for discharging regrind, ideal for the complete spectrum of injection moulding, blow moulding and extrusion waste recycling with throughputs up to 1,200 Kg/h. As with other granulators of the Rapid 45 Series, this model features ‘open-hearted’ design that gives immediate access to the cutterhouse for fast cleaning, maintenance and changeover times.

For optimal regrinding of medium size applications the Rapid 2660 with DS 50 dust separator system is a strong, silent running and compact machine. A universal granulator for injection moulding, blow moulding and extrusion applications, the Rapid 2660 can be configured for direct in-line recycling or central granulation of waste, typically including spruces, runners, profiles, smaller pipes and sheets, and moulded items.

Specifically dedicated to the extrusion sector the Rapid 2048, complete with integrated sound insulation, blower system and roller feeder, is designed for the recycling of side strips from extruded film. Employing special rollers, edge trims are continuously pulled into the machine from the film extrusion line.

The GranuMATIC™ Compact, one of the first shredders to be designed specifically for the plastics industry, is a slow turning shredder uniquely offering a combination of improved product uniformity, energy efficiency and reduced running costs. A key feature of the GranuMATIC is its FlexiPUSH™ pneumatic pusher system, which feeds material into the cutter mechanism at the same time absorbing stresses from the cutting process and allowing the use of low motor power.
