Rapid expands into slow-speed granulator technology with acquisition of Moditec
Bredaryd, Sweden - Rapid Granulator AB has acquired the French company Moditec, a specialist in the development and manufacture of slow-speed (screenless) granulators, with effect from October 16, 2007.
“The acquisition of Moditec follows a strategic decision by Rapid to become the world leader in this segment and will further improve and extend our offering to the global plastic processing industry,” explains Rolf Gren, CEO of Rapid Granulator AB. “As a result we can now provide a broad range of slow-speed machines, extending from very small granulators for the grinding of small injection moulding sprues and rejects, to units that are capable of handling car bumpers and dashboards.”
The acquisition of Moditec, which will continue to operate under its own name, extends Rapid’s offering in the slow-speed granulator segment. It also allows the company to gain access to Moditec’s patented Integrated Metal Detection (IMD) technology, which Rapid hopes to apply to its entire slow-speed range in the near future. The companies had previously cooperated at a technical level on slow-speed technologies.
"Our strong relationship with Rapid spans 7 years and is built upon our shared common goal - to help our customers to optimize their plastics recycling with solutions adapted to their applications,” adds Mr. Gilles Dutour, Managing Director at Moditec. “Following our integration into the overall Rapid slow-speed portfolio, we are expecting significant growth for Moditec.”
Moditec has more than 20 years of experience in the development and manufacture of granulators for the plastics industry. Applying the dual principles of innovation and manufacturing quality, the company has built a reputation as a specialist supplier of slow-speed granulators under the Goliath Plus and Titan Plus trade names. Benefits associated with the entire range of Moditec granulators include a very low cutting speed of 25 RPM, screenless operation, a compact build, low-noise/low-dust running and a grinding process that maintains the molecular structure of the thermoplastics. The company’s patented IMD system ensures that the granulator’s rotor stops immediately upon the detection of metal, thus minimizing the risk for expensive mechanical breakdown, as well as preventing the intrusion of metal into the regrind.
