Interplas is more than just an exhibition
Interplas 2002 is the largest international plastics and rubber exhibition being held this year and the 15th in a series dating back to 1951. The strategy for the organisation, presentation and staging of this year’s event, by Reed Exhibitions, is being co-ordinated in close association with an industry lead steering committee and guarantees the exhibition will continue to meet the demands of both visitors and exhibitors.
Preparation for the event began immediately Interplas 1999 was concluded, and the impact of this year’s exhibition will be maintained long past its closing time by continued maintenance and updating of its website.
Last year Reed Exhibitions underlined its long-term commitment to develop the concept of the Interplas exhibition by working more closely with the polymer industry, and by undertaking a series of bold initiatives.
A new industry magazine, Polymer Engineering, has been launched as a clear and unambiguous demonstration of Reed Exhibitions’ commitment to the plastics and rubber industry. This ensures a continuous dialogue between Reed Exhibitions, as Interplas organiser, and the UK polymer marketplace.
A marketing campaign focusing on markets that are large consumers of plastics and rubbers materials: transportation, medical, telecommunications, sport and leisure, packaging, construction, and consumer and industrial, spearheaded by a range of application related advertising concepts, and the largest media campaign of any Interplas show, started this month. Over 30 key trade journals will feature Interplas advertising between now and
October 2002.
A strong design lead theme for Interplas 2002 will be communicated toward the UK’s 100,000 plus community of design engineers, in recognition that it is design innovation that is the driving force behind the continuing development of the polymer industry. Interplas 2002 will feature a dynamic design forum specifically in support of an invitation encouraging these product design engineers to attend the show.
Forefront of the design forum is the Designing in Plastics technical centre, sponsored by Eureka. Within the centre, sponsoring companies will be highlighting the creative thinking that has gone into the design of many products with which they have been associated, and will be running a daily series of seminars, workshops and clinics. The centre will also incorporate an inventors’ corner, a software centre – organised by British Plastics & Rubber (BP&R) – and a polymer tactile area where design engineers will be able to touch-and-feel an array of polymeric materials.
Visitor access and flow to all sectors of the exhibition will be greatly enhanced by a link between the backs of halls 4 and 5.
Additional visitors will also be attending from the NEPCON electronics fair that is co-hosting with Interplas (Halls 1 and 2, from 1-3 October), making the combined event the UK’s largest manufacturing show in 2002. Nepcon, now in its 35th year, will have a complementary technical centre to that of Interplas, Designing in Electronics. Design engineers will be encouraged to visit and participate in the activities at both centres.
As a result of the interaction between Nepcon and Interplas, there will be a special production line located between the two shows. Sponsored by weekly newspaper Plastics & Rubber Weekly (PRW), the line will be a unique demonstration of the production of a prototype component utilising manufacturing technology from both polymer and electronics engineering.
New show opening times, Mon-Fri 10.00 – 17.00, have been implemented, following exhibitor feedback and a visitor’s survey.
Finally, the Interplas 2002 website not only supplies comprehensive details of the exhibition and associated information, it is extremely user-friendly and provides an international and industry-wide focal point leading up to the show. Full details of all exhibitors, the hall plans and the events being staged are included, visitor pre-registration is automatic, and travel and hotel accommodation can be booked on-line. Also, ea
