Unique plastics product design challenge takes place at Interplas 2002
The Plastics Design Committee of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (The former Institute of Materials) will be exhibiting at Interplas for the first time. The IOM3 Design Committee is unique amongst the UK Institutes and they have devised a plastics design competition to be staged as part of the Interplas programme.
The IOM3 Committee’s stand number is 3582 and they are indebted to Reed Exhibitions, PDD Ltd. and BigHead Bonding Fasteners Ltd. for their sponsorship.
The design challenge will be to suggest alternative manufacturing methods for the production of Patrick Cook’s now famous, all plastic, mini-caravan known as ‘the POD’. Currently, the main shell of the 2.5 m. x 1.25 m. mini-caravan is produced from two glass-fibre shells which are subsequently bonded together. Visitors will be invited to suggest alternative and appropriate plastics manufacturing routes for the production of the Mk II version, based on requirements of between 500 and 10,000 bodies p.a. A draw for the winning entry will take place at the end of the show.
