Special Features Highlight Design and Innovation

Design, the driving force behind the continuing innovation and development of the plastics industry, is the central theme of Interplas 2002, and the exhibition is being targeted directly at product designers and design engineers via a comprehensive marketing programme. At the forefront of the show’s own design feature is the "Designing in Plastics technical centre", which will provide a showcase to highlight the versatility of polymers and the creative thinking behind a range of innovative products and components.

The Designing in Plastics technical centre is being sponsored by Eureka magazine and incorporates daily seminars, workshops, and clinics to form a full programme of events over the five days of Interplas 2002. Other features include a Software Centre, sponsored by BP&R magazine showcasing the latest in polymer software applications, a live Mould-Making Cell, sponsored by Mould Technology and Feels Like Polymer, where designers can look-and-feel a vast array of plastics materials and products. A comprehensive seminar programme, sponsored by BP&R and Mold-Masters, focuses on design as well as general polymer manufacturing issues.

A major visitor attraction undoubtedly will be E=motion, the 30-foot, battery-powered car that is scheduled to be making an attempt to break the world’s electric land speed record of 251mph on the Chott-el-Jerid salt flats in Tunisia. Robot supplier Wittman UK is among the sponsors of E=motion, a vehicle designed around four electric motors delivering a total of 600hp and bringing speeds of up to 300mph within reach for the first time.
