Rhodia Engineering Plastics continues leading edge development of TECHNYL STAR™ polyamide family

At the K’2001 Rhodia Engineering Plastics has launched three new grades in its advanced, TECHNYL STAR™ family of high flow polyamide resins. With increasing uptake for a range of tough automotive components by leading global manufacturers, TECHNYL STAR™ is now making inroads into other tough application markets. These include power tool, electrical and sport and leisure industries, for which the material’s combination of physical and rheological properties are also able to deliver cost efficient high yield, quality mouldings.

The capability of TECHNYL STAR™ to reach beyond the traditional properties of polyamide to deliver superior productivity advantages is further confirmed by the development of the TECHNYL STAR™ S 32H2 MX30, TECHNYL STAR™ S 30H1 V30 and TECHNYL STAR™ S 246 V35 fast processing material grades.

TECHNYL STAR™ S 32H2 MX30 is a 30 percent mineral filled grade, rated UL 94 V2 at 0.8mm. Complying with IEC 60335-1, the new European standard for “household and similar electrical appliances”, this grade is ideally suited for applications ranging from mini circuit breakers to switches and sockets. Offering outstanding dimensional stability and good surface finish the material is available in a range of light colours.

A 30 percent glass reinforced grade, TECHNYL STAR™ S 30H1 V30, is rated UL 94 VO at 0.8mm and classified self-extinguishing in respect of flammability. Although halogen-based, this material is PDBE free, in accordance with the future European directive. Offering excellent mechanical strength and high flowability, TECHNYL STAR™ S 30H1 V30 has an ideal fit in large or complex parts such as housings or rotary switches. The material gives a high quality surface finish but is also available as self-coloured material.

TECHNYL STAR™ S 246 V35 has been designed to meet the high mechanical demands of applications bridging power tool housings and sport and leisure components, which include ski fittings and bindings. This 35 percent glass reinforced, impact modified grade gives wide freedom of design, good colourability and good surface finish to reach a high level of aesthetics, complementing the outstanding productivity achievable with this fast flowing material.

TECHNYL STAR™ is a breakthrough material, able to meet stringent mechanical criteria and provide an improved quality, higher performance solution in a broad range of applications.

On average TECHNYL STAR™ delivers a minimum 10 percent reduction in injection cycle time, 20 percent decrease in injection pressure, a clam of ping force reduction of 30 percent and a processing temperature reduction of 40˚C, thereby giving processors and moulders, cost, time and energy saving advantages.
