Rhodia Polyamide announces global price increase for Adipic Acid to address unprecedented energy costs and persistent high raw material prices

Lyon, France, September 27, 2005 – Rhodia Polyamide announces a global price rise for Adipic Acid effective October 1st, 2005 or as contracts will allow. Prices will increase by US$125 / MT in North America, South America and Asia, €100 / MT in Europe and 15 yen/kg in Japan.

Energy and transport costs are dramatically and structurally increasing. Whatever the impact of recent events, the underlying upward trends are to be sustained in time and this price increase reflects this reality.

Rhodia has worked proactively to reduce energy consumption and will continue to sustain these efforts while operating according to highest industry standards and promoting sustainable development. However, under the current circumstances, these efforts are not sufficient to overcome energy and transport cost pressures. Additional price increases may be necessary over the next few months to compensate for further increases in raw material, energy and transport costs.
