RHODIA LAUNCHES EVOLITE™ BY TECHNYL®, THE COMPOSITE THAT OPENS UP A WORLD OF INNOVATION

Düsseldorf, Germany – October 28, 2010 ---- Evolite™ by Technyl®, an extensively patented range of polyamide-based continuous fiber reinforced materials from Rhodia, makes its debut at K2010. This innovative family of thermoplastic composite is the ultimate solution for high demanding transportation, industrial and consumer applications, achieving an optimal and unique balance between lightweight and performance.

Positioned as a high performance, cost-competitive and recyclable material, Evolite is intended for a wide range of applications, including transport seating, car bumper beams and front-end structures, racing bicycle frames, window frames and tanks.

“Evolite is a breakthrough solution with considerable growth ahead of it” comments François Hincker, President of Rhodia’s Engineering Plastics Global Business Unit. “We see it as setting the standard for future generations of composites”.

Evolite ‘s matrix exhibits the lowest viscosity of any polyamide. This performance is key to bring outstanding impregnation, allowing higher reinforcement rates, up to 62%. Parts made in Evolite will show excellent strength and toughness, enhanced crash resistance and very good ageing properties. In addition, material fluidity increases drastically the processor’s competitiveness, thanks to faster production rates compared to thermoset technologies.

Dr Jean-Marc Feuillas, Rhodia’s Composites Project Director adds: “K 2010 is the opportunity for Rhodia to demonstrate the full potential of Evolite and to talk with potential users showing how they can best use it”.

Available in recyclable pre-impregnated fabrics or consolidated plates, Evolite can be made of glass, carbon and possibly other fibers. Evolite solutions allow the use of various processing technologies and will complement Rhodia’s established ranges of reinforced polyamides.

“With such a versatile resin system, so many possibilities in the types of reinforcement we can use, and so many ways to process the composites, we truly believe we are opening up a new world of innovation for our customers,” says Dr Feuillas.
