SABIC Helps Volvo Trucks Accelerate Sustainability with Valox iQ* Resin, the First Up-cycled Plastic Resin Used in a North American Truck
ORLANDO, Florida (USA)– April 4, 2012 – Here at NPE 2012, Booth #29000, SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business announced a major new sustainability milestone with its longstanding customer, Volvo Trucks: the first use of an up-cycled material in a North American heavy truck from post-consumer recycled (PCR) content. Specifically, SABIC’s Valox iQ* polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) resin, which incorporates up-cycled water bottles, is used for the brackets of the side air deflection system for all seven models in the 2012 Volvo VN platform of heavy trucks. Valox iQ resin not only helps Volvo deliver top performance under harsh driving conditions, but also contributes toward greater sustainability. Additional SABIC solutions used to further enhance sustainability and performance in Volvo VN trucks include lightweight Noryl GTX* resin for the fenders, tough Cycoloy* resin for the grille and clear Lexan* resin for forward lighting. This joint achievement by Volvo Trucks and SABIC is the latest in a series of standard-raising innovations delivering environmental benefits.

SABIC’s Lightweight Xenoy* and Lexan* Resins Deliver All-Day Comfort to the New 3M™ Versaflo™ M-Series Safety Headgear
BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands – December 15, 2011 – Because protective gear is only effective when workers use it, 3M™ has designed a new exceptionally comfortable, ergonomic line of hardhats and helmets made with SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business’ lightweight Xenoy* and Lexan* OQ optical quality resins. The new 3M Versaflo™ M-series respiratory headgear product line uses custom-colored Xenoy polycarbonate/polybutylene terephthalate (PC/PBT) resin for headgear shells and visor frames, enabling thin-wall designs which helps reduce the headgear weight by approximately 15-20 percent compared to the company’s previous L-series products. Water-clear Lexan OQ PC resin, used for the visors, provides excellent optical qualities and high impact resistance. SABIC positioned to meet rising automotive OEM demand for PP in North America with official opening of U.S.-based compounding operation
BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands – November 24, 2011 – SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business today celebrated a major milestone with the official opening of its specialty polypropylene (PP) compounding operation at its Bay St. Louis, Mississippi manufacturing site. The new compounding operation will supply SABIC® PP compounds and SABIC STAMAX* long glass fiber-filled PP (LGFPP) composites for a wide range of automotive applications. SABIC’s new PP operation answers fast-accelerating demand from automotive OEMs and tiers for local supply of globally-consistent PP materials in North America, supporting production of both regional and global vehicle platforms. This is the second time in 17 months that SABIC has opened a PP compounding facility, having celebrated the start-up of its Genk, Belgium plant in June 2010. SABIC and AmeriLux International co-create new Lexapanel* sheet standing seam solution for beautiful, translucent, eco-conscious glazing
