SABIC’s World-Renowned LEXAN™ PC Resin & Customer Support Helps Fonckel B.V. Take Unique LED Luminaire from Design to Reality
MUNICH, Germany, September 19, 2012 - When Fonckel B.V., a start-up company based in the Netherlands, needed expert assistance to turn the stunning design of its Fonckel One lamp – an interactive light emitting diode (LED) luminaire – into a commercial product, SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business was there to deliver its world-class customer support. With its robust portfolio of advanced thermoplastics for lighting applications, its Color Innovation Centre offering more than 18,000 color and diffusion effect options, and its application development expertise, SABIC assisted Fonckel with tapping the proven performance and versatility of LEXAN™ FXD polycarbonate (PC) resin for use on the lamp’s diffuser cover. On display here at the Strategies in Light Show at SABIC booth #B8, this unique luminaire, the name which means “sparkle” in Dutch, demonstrates SABIC’s ability to precisely meet the specialized needs of its customers by helping them translate their design vision into the right material application.

BERLIN, Allemagne, 18 septembre 2012 - En anticipant la mise en œuvre de la norme pan-européenne pour la sécurité en matière d'incendie dans le domaine des intérieurs de wagons, la division commerciale Innovative Plastics de SABIC a élargi son portefeuille de solutions de matériaux hautes performances en ajoutant deux plaques LEXAN™ à son portefeuille de matériaux. Ces nouveaux produits comprennent la plaque LEXAN H6500, une nouvelle gamme de plaques en polycarbonate et acrylonitrile-butadiène-styrène (PC/ABS) qui répond à la prochaine norme européenne harmonisée CEN/TS 45545, ainsi que la plaque LEXAN H6200, une nouvelle gamme conforme à la norme allemande DIN. Ces deux produits ont été conçus afin d'aider les clients du secteur du rail à répondre à la demande croissante dans le temps et de proposer une technologies thermoplastiques avancées présentant une résistance aux flammes (RF) avec des produits non chlorée et non bromée qui améliorent la conception et le développement des applications d'intérieurs de wagons. Présentés à l'InnoTrans 2012 à la Berlin Messe, hall 5.1, stand n° 228, ces matériaux à la pointe du secteur montrent que SABIC a compris quelles étaient les priorités de l'industrie du rail et illustrent son engagement à développer de manière anticipée de nouvelles solutions pour répondre aux besoins en constante évolution de ses clients.

The company is spotlighting key aspects of its portfolio – one of the broadest in the lighting industry – including the LEXAN™ LUX family of high-performance polycarbonate (PC) resins for light emitting diode (LED) lighting, and other specialty compounds for the lighting industry. A highlight of the exhibit is the interactive Fonckel One LED luminaire, whose diffuser cover is molded from specially tinted LEXAN FXD resin. The Fonckel One is just one example of lighting innovations whose design, aesthetics, performance and sustainability can be enhanced with SABIC materials.

Advanced Thermoplastic Technology from SABIC Enables Mahindra & Mahindra to Launch India’s First Plastic Fender
SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business today announced that Indian automotive manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), with support from its Tier 1 supplier Plastic Omnium, has developed India’s first injection molded plastic fenders, which are featured on the new critically acclaimed global XUV500 sports utility vehicle (SUV). Upgrading from steel to lightweight, online paintable Noryl GTX* resin helped Mahindra & Mahindra to improve the SUV’s fuel economy, reduce emissions, greatly expand design freedom, and enhance resistance against minor impact. The use of Noryl GTX resin for the fenders helps make the global XUV500 one of the lightest SUVs in its class. This collaboration demonstrates SABIC’s commitment to provide automotive customers with thermoplastic solutions that help drive the development of cutting-edge styling for differentiated designs and improved sustainability through weight-out.

SABIC’s New Noryl* SA Resins Cut Cost and Extend Performance Capabilities of Thermoset Systems for PCBs, Adhesives & Coatings
Committed to helping customers differentiate their products and gain a market advantage, SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business today launched a new breakthrough line of Noryl* SA90 and SA9000 resins that can be used as additives for epoxy and non-epoxy thermoset systems. These advanced new materials address expanding requirements and regulations for printed circuit boards (PCBs), including the call for enhanced sustainability, and exceptional overall cost control. Noryl SA90 and SA9000 resins can also be used by makers of pre-pregs and copper-coated laminates, electrical adhesives, composites and coatings – to significantly boost the performance and sustainability of their existing thermoset products without upgrading to more expensive materials. These innovative Noryl SA resins are the latest additions to SABIC’s broad, customer-centric portfolio of unique, high-purity specialty additives and intermediates.

SABIC to Increase STAMAX* LGFPP Capacity at Genk, Belgium Facility to Meet Rising Automotive Customer Demand
SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business today announced that it is significantly boosting capacity for its STAMAX* long glass fiber-filled polypropylene (LGFPP) composite resins at its manufacturing facility in Genk, Belgium, to meet rapidly growing demand from automotive customers. Last month, the company began work on a new production line – slated to open in the second half of 2013 – to further its ability to provide a secure and reliable local supply of this high-performance SABIC material. STAMAX LGFPP composite resins give customers a robust combination of properties, while enabling exceptional light weight to provide the potential to improve fuel efficiency and cut emissions. This lighter weight allows for a significantly enhanced carbon and energy footprint over the life of a car or truck compared with traditional materials. The Genk capacity expansion demonstrates SABIC’s commitment to automotive customers worldwide and their need for high-performance sustainable solutions that will enable them to design and produce next-generation vehicles.

Commitment to dairy market reinforced with the introduction of new SABIC® HDPE grade
Sittard, the Netherlands - June 21, 2012 - With the introduction of SABIC® HDPE B5260ULS, processors are provided with a new blow molding grade typically developed for the production of bottles, such as milk, as well as other dairy products and juices. The principal target of the grade is bottles for UHT (Ultra-High Temperature) and sterilized milk that are produced on high-speed extrusion blow molding lines, especially in southern European countries.

SABIC and VU University Amsterdam (VU) collaborate on new solar thermal technology that can lead to significant sustainable energy gains in the future
Sittard, the Netherlands - June 18, 2012 - Customers in the future will benefit from lighter weight, more efficient and lower cost solar thermal panels as a result of an exclusive, worldwide agreement between SABIC and VU University Amsterdam (VU). The objective of the collaboration is to develop and commercialize the university’s technology invention to keep the temperature in solar energy collectors under control.
