SABIC Innovative Plastics Teams with IAV GmbH to Develop Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Powertrain Solutions with High-Performance, Lightweight Thermoplastics

MANNHEIM, Germany – April 6, 2011 – Here at the VDI conference – Booth #74 – SABIC Innovative Plastics today announced its collaboration with IAV GmbH, a world leader in advanced vehicle and powertrain systems, to develop advanced thermoplastic solutions that can replace metal in electric vehicle (EV) and hybrid powertrain components. Specifically, the two companies are targeting new ways to optimize vehicle performance and efficiency, including lightweighting to offset heavy battery packs and shielding in areas of high voltage.

SABIC Innovative Plastics’ New Anti-Static and Low-Gloss/No-Paint Solutions Add Stylish High Quality to Automotive Interiors

BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands – May 3, 2011 – SABIC Innovative Plastics launched at the VDI conference two new specialty materials that make creating and maintaining high-quality, attractive automotive interiors much easier. The first new product is a Cycolac* acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene/polycarbonate (ABS/PC) resin for elegant, low-gloss parts that eliminates the costs, wear problems and environmental downsides of secondary painting. The second innovation is a Geloy* polycarbonate/acrylonitrile styrene acrylate (PC/ASA) resin that provides permanent anti-static performance for a fresh, clean appearance of interior parts. The new Cycolac and Geloy resin materials – along with other high-tech thermoplastic resins and glazing in SABIC Innovative Plastics’ robust and growing portfolio of automotive materials – are on display at its booth, showcasing the company’s focus on driving next-generation breakthroughs to help global automotive customers enhance vehicle performance and consumer appeal.

New Research by SABIC Innovative Plastics Underscores Importance of Lexan* PC Auto Glazing for Extended EV Range and Reduced Emissions

BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands – May 10, 2011 – At the VDI conference SABIC Innovative Plastics announced compelling new findings on the benefits of Lexan* polycarbonate (PC) glazing. Lexan PC automotive glazing has already established itself as a weight reducing technology that can result in lower fuel consumption and lower carbon dioxide emissions. Now, advanced computer analyses of the thermal insulation benefits of Lexan* PC automotive glazing have quantified the material’s potential to reduce the load on heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems based on the significantly lower thermal conductivity of PC vs. glass. The new findings underscore the value of using Lexan PC glazing to help drive improved efficiency for conventional, hybrid and electric vehicles. The findings come from the research and development team of Exatec*, LLC, SABIC Innovative Plastics’ dedicated automotive glazing subsidiary.
