SABIC Showcases Extensive Portfolio of Innovative Materials Technologies for the Lighting Industry at Strategies in Light Event
MUNICH, Germany, September 18, 2012 - SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business is displaying the vast scope, versatility and quality of its material technologies for lighting applications at its booth (#B8) at the Strategies in Light event here. The company is spotlighting key aspects of its portfolio – one of the broadest in the lighting industry – including the LEXAN™ LUX family of high-performance polycarbonate (PC) resins for light emitting diode (LED) lighting, and other specialty compounds for the lighting industry. A highlight of the exhibit is the interactive Fonckel One LED luminaire, whose diffuser cover is molded from specially tinted LEXAN FXD resin. The Fonckel One is just one example of lighting innovations whose design, aesthetics, performance and sustainability can be enhanced with SABIC materials.
“We are dedicated to helping customers compete and succeed in the rapidly changing lighting industry,” said Ilknur Gur, general manager specialty business, Europe, Innovative Plastics. “Our extensive, global offering of materials, technical expertise and services enable customers to address key lighting trends ranging from new aesthetic requirements for LED retrofits to ever-increasing demands for improved performance and greater sustainability. At the same time, our full offerings can simplify the supply chain and give customers confidence in reliable availability of materials across all geographies.”
SABIC’s LEXAN LUX flame-retardant (FR) resins, featuring non-brominated, non-chlorinated technology, offer a choice of customizable diffusion levels or transparency and excellent luminance for lenses, diffusers and optics. Non-FR LEXAN LUX grades are especially designed for manufacturing optical parts requiring easy flow properties combined with very high light transmission and color stability. They are suitable for automotive and non-automotive lighting applications such as light guides and lenses. The entire LEXAN LUX series offers optimized optical and heat aging properties for LEDs with a wavelength of approximately 400 nanometers.
Ultraviolet-stable LEXAN SLX copolymers that deliver enhanced weatherability for outdoor lighting applications and specialized LEXAN PC resin with high reflectivity for non-automotive lighting reflectors are also on display. The high-reflectivity material is available with non-brominated, non-chlorinated FR performance meeting the UL-94 V-0 standard. In addition, the company is presenting LNP KONDUIT™ conductive compound for thermal management, in LED heat sinks. This specialty compound offers greater design freedom than traditional approaches.
