American Maplan's new heater is like money in the bank for extruders

Small changes to machine design can yield big savings for processors. This point was underscored recently when extruder manufacturer American Maplan Corp., McPherson, Kansas, made a seemingly minor design change to the screw oil heating element installed on most of its profile machines. The new design reduces the amount of electrical power needed for each heating unit by 20%, to 7.6 watts from 9.5 watts, with no trade-off in process performance. The result, says VP Sales Kurt Waldhauer, is potentially reduced energy consumption, a 50 to 60% increase in heater life, and a decrease in machine maintenance.

Conical Battenfeld extruder series now complete

The "Conical" of Battenfeld Extrusionstechnik now complete In response to the extraordinary market success of its first conical extruder model, Battenfeld Extrusionstechnik GmbH, Bad Oeynhausen, Germany now offers a complete series of three conical extruders. To the BEX 2-54-C already proven on the production floor in the medium-performance range, a small co-extruder, the BEX 2-42 CC, and a larger model, the BEX 2-72-C, have been added.

Battenfeld Chen Extrusion Systems Protects Technology

Battenfeld Chen Extrusion Systems, SMS Plastics Technology Group's JV in China, sued Dongguan Weltec Machinery Ltd. in an action to protect its technology. Dong-guan Weltec, a unit of Cosmos Machinery Enterprises Ltd., a publicly traded com-pany in Hong Kong, is accused of violating intellectual property rights with respect to a single screw polyethylen pipe extrusion line. Dongguan Weltec Machinery is al-leged to have used confidential Battenfeld Chen Extrusion System information to make a copy of Battenfeld's technology, and offer it for sale to customers. In the le-gal action, the Foshan Middle Court seized the copied machinery, and issued a sub-poena to Dongguan Weltec on October 29, 2003. According to Battenfeld Chen, it was discovered that Dongguan Weltec Machinery approached Battenfeld's suppliers a year ago last September with drawings in an effort to build essentially exact copies of Battenfeld technology.

Battenfeld Gloucester technology opens new markets

Battenfeld Gloucester's new UltraCool air ring dramatically improves film quality and bubble stability. To increase its presence in the bag manufacturing market, Eastern Packaging Co., Inc. recently incorporated new technology and upgraded some older equipment in their Lawrence, Massachusetts plant. The addition of a new 3½" blown film Contracool® extruder and 10" die package from Battenfeld Gloucester Engineering in Gloucester, Massachusetts, has resulted not only in a dramatic 40% output increase for their current LD materials, but an improvement in film quality and the ability to run 100% LLDPE.

Battenfeld miniBEX - with a maxi-success

The BEX 1-60-25D miniBEX equipped with the new control unit Just one year ago, Battenfeld Extrusionstechnik, Bad Oeynhausen, Germany launched its miniBEX - a low-cost extrusion line to manufacture high-end small industrial profiles. The extraordinary sales success of these extrusion lines has now prompted the machine manufacturer to further optimize this machine concept by offering additional functions.

In line with current trends: Saudi-Arabian Processor

Pipe die head Large-diameter polyolefin pipes are particularly well suited for the transport of potable water. Almost anywhere in the world, but especially in Saudi-Arabia, the construction and maintenance of the water supply network is a vital necessity. So the Riyadh company Saudi Preinsulated Pipes Industries, LLC (SPPI), has recently invested in the purchase of two new turnkey extrusion lines from Battenfeld Extrusionstechnik GmbH, Bad Oeynhausen, Germany, to manufacture HDPE pipes.

SMS Folientechnik ships complete production line to Italy

The shrinkage of the foam sheet produced in a tandem process
is controlled by a calibrating mandrel and an air ring.

A well-known Italian plastics processor has recently installed a new tandem foam extrusion system from SMS Folientechnik GmbH, Vienna, to produce polystyrene foam sheet for the manufacture of thermoformed food trays.

The best-seller among extruders: more applications for new Alpha models

The best-seller among extruders:
more applications for new Alpha models
With its Alpha single-screw extruder series tailored to profile extrusion, Cin-cinnati Extrusion is offering its customers a convincing machine concept. Since the introduction of this new, standardized machine series at K 2001, more than 160 Alpha extruders have already been sold worldwide. Now the Vienna machine manufacturer has once more responded to current market trends by adding two new Alpha models to this successful line, one with grooved feed-bushing, and another with fine-grooved feed bushing.

Battenfeld presenting a new drive concept

Battenfeld takes the leading edge with its new drive concept.

Battenfeld Extrusionstechnik GmbH, Bad Oeynhausen is the first manufacturer of extruders to introduce a new, innovative drive system for torque and screw speed control in all of its extruders. The most remarkable feature of these high-performance, so-called CMG compact drive motors is their reduced size compared to conventional cylindrical gear drive systems.
