Songwon customers to benefit from a new Regulatory Affairs Newsletter
Ulsan, Korea - August 28, 2012 - Songwon Industrial Co., Ltd. is upgrading its monthly REACH Newsletter that informs customers of the status of chemical products and how they are affected by regulations. From now onwards, Songwon's Regulatory Affairs Newsletter will allow customers access to timely updates on important information that covers legislation and regulatory trends on a global scale.
The chemical industry continues to face new challenges. One of the most important is meeting regional and local legislation that exists, and is emerging, to ensure we all live and work in a safe and healthy environment. Songwon constantly monitors how best to serve its customers with knowledge and support on the complexities of regulations such as REACH (The European regulation that deals with the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemical substances) and GHS (The Globally Harmonized System on the classification and labeling of chemicals, initiated by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe).
Legislative updates have been announced in Taiwan, Korea and India. In April of this year the Taiwanese authorities announced that the ECN (Existing Chemical substance Nominations) for their Chemical Inventory would be extended to encompass Supplementary Existing Chemicals Substance Nominations, now known as the SECN. To be able to make submissions, a new ECN tool and guidance, has been published. Korea has committed to implementing Korea REACH as of January 1, 2014, for companies who manufacture, import and use existing chemical substances in volumes greater than 1 ton/annum. From then on they will be obliged to register and report volumes and provide Safety Data Sheets for specific hazardous materials. India is in the process of publishing a set of rules in line with the GHS that will result in REACH like legislation.
The level of intensity and complexity of environmental legislation continues to increase and as Dieter Morath, Executive Vice President Sales and Member of the Songwon Industrial Group Executive Committee, pointed out: “Our customers will be one step ahead thanks to our expertise and commitment to lead the industry in meeting legislation globally, on time or ahead of time.
We are currently on schedule to complete the process to meet the 2013 deadline for Tier 2 REACH registrations and all Songwon EU customers will automatically receive appropriate Coverage Statements and Import Certificates for all Songwon products supplied. Our Regulatory Affairs Newsletter will be a valuable tool in keeping our customers informed of our progress.”
In 2010, Songwon saw an opportunity to deliver a unique regulatory service to its customers. Jongho Park, Chairman and CEO and Head of the Songwon Industrial Group Executive Committee, explained: “At Songwon we fully support the need for regulations that lead to a cleaner and safer world. For that reason we set up Chemservice Asia Co. Ltd., a J.V. between Songwon Industrial Co., Ltd. and Chemservice S.A., as a way of delivering leadership and value. Through Chemservice Asia we can ensure that our customers receive a significant competitive advantage due to the skills, expertise and facilities we can make available for what is a complex, time consuming and often costly necessity of doing business.”
