SONOCO-ALCORE ANNOUNCES COREBOARD AND CORE INCREASE IN EUROPE

Brussels, Belgium – Sonoco - Alcore will raise prices on coreboard and cores and tubes effective April 18, 2005, it was announced today by James Harrell, chief executive officer of Sonoco-Alcore.

SONOCO TO BUILD ADDITIONAL TUBE AND CORE PLANT IN TURKEY

Hartsville, S.C. – Sonoco (NYSE: SON), the global packaging company, will build an additional paper-based tube and core facility in Gaziantep, Turkey, to serve the textile, film, papermill and general core markets, it was announced today by Ronald E. Holley, senior vice president.

SONOCO AND AHLSTROM TO COMBINE EUROPEAN TUBE/CORE AND COREBOARD OPERATIONS INTO JOINT VENTURE

Hartsville, S.C. - Sonoco (NYSE: SON), the global packaging company, Hartsville, S.C., and Ahlstrom Corporation, Helsinki, Finland, have signed a definitive agreement to combine their respective European paper-based tube/core and coreboard operations into a joint venture that will operate under the name Sonoco-Alcore S.a.r.l. The joint venture will be held 64.5 percent by Sonoco and 35.5 percent by Ahlstrom, it was announced today by Harris E. DeLoach, Jr., Sonoco president and chief executive officer, and Juha Rantanen, president and chief executive officer, Ahlstrom Corporation.

Sonoco enters into agreement with Italian-based Demolli

Sonoco announces engineered carriers price increase

Hartsville, S.C., March 4, 2004, -- Sonoco (NYSE: SON) will raise prices on all engineered carriers by eight percent effective April 1, 2004, it was announced today by Ronald E. Holley, senior vice president.

SONOCO PURCHASES WOOD REEL OPERATIONS

Hartsville, SC -- Sonoco (NYSE:SON) today announced the purchase of Texas Reel Company’s plywood reel operations, Sherman, Texas, and Coonrod Reel Company’s nailed wood reel operation in Bohman, Texas, it was announced today by Charles W. Reid, division vice president and general manager, Sonoco Baker® Reels. Annual sales from these acquisitions in 2002 are expected to be approximately $10 million. The purchase price was not revealed.

SONOCO TO RESTRUCTURE ITS UNITED KINGDOM TUBE AND CORE BUSINESS

Brussels, Belgium - - Sonoco (NYSE:SON) will increase prices for its paper-based engineered carriers (tubes and cores) by 7 percent to 9 percent in Continental Europe, effective 12 August 2002, it was announced by Charles F. Paterno, vice president – Sonoco Europe. Paterno said that prices in the United Kingdom would be reviewed during August with further increases possible there as well.
