TE Connectivity at InnoTrans to Show the Way for Rail Power and Data Transmission
Highlights to include new-generation roofline module and hands-on experience with future Smart Rail technology at the ‘Innovation Station’
BERLIN – September 20, 2016 – TE Connectivity (TE), a world leader in connectivity and sensors, is at InnoTrans to demonstrate its roofline module for high-voltage power transmission, as well as its Smart Rail solutions for the future of digital railways.
TE’s presence at InnoTrans includes its main stand in Hall 12, Booth 210, a careers stand at Hall 7.1C, Booth 201J, plus the recent addition to TE’s business, sensors and systems firm Jaquet Technology Group in Hall 6.2, Booth 109.
Visitors to the main stand in Hall 12, Booth 210 will see a prototype new generation roofline module, which TE announced in the lead-up to InnoTrans, to meet demand for subsystems that are lightweight and reliable and can endure harsh environmental challenges.
Another highlight of Booth 210 is the opportunity to see what is possible in connectivity for digital railways at TE’s ‘Innovation Station.’ One breakthrough technology here is TE’s new-to-the-world polymer for transmitting data at rates of up to 10 gigabits, called Advanced Polymer mmWave. Another is a multi-sensor module that will wirelessly connect sensors with an intuitive mobile app for pressure, humidity, temperature, carbon monoxide and ambient light or infrared readings. While these are for the future, the station will also feature today’s state-of-the-art wired, wireless and sensor components and data switches.
Al Ghelani, general manager of the Rail division of TE’s Industrial business unit said: “InnoTrans will be the first opportunity to see TE’s new-generation roofline module as well as the next- and new-generation systems that we are developing to support the digital railway. InnoTrans is also a great opportunity to welcome sensors specialist Jaquet to TE, along with its leading speed sensing technologies.”
New-generation low profile roofline module
Roofline systems transmit electrical power at high voltage from the catenary line to the traction transformer and include components such as the pantograph, surge arrestors, circuit breakers, power cables, insulated bushings and metering transformers. Because their reliability can be reduced by humid, polluted and low pressure conditions, rolling stock manufacturers typically re-engineer roofline systems to withstand each operator’s environment.
TE created its new modular approach to roofline systems so that manufacturers can use a single design for all operating environments. It combines reliable operation with low profile and lightweight design that can play a role in limiting overall height of double-decker rolling stock and, most importantly, improve aerodynamic performance.
Power and signal and cable identification
The latest innovations complement TE’s other power and signal products and systems on display. These include components and systems for safe and reliable transmission of high-voltage power and on-board power and signals, plus rail-certified identification systems.
Jaquet at InnoTrans
On its booth in Hall 6.2, 109, Jaquet will be highlighting its new range of multi-channel speed sensors with low jitter and static characteristics, which makes them ideal for propulsion control systems. It will also show its ALPHABOX engine diagnostic system that uses speed sensors on an engine’s crankshaft to analyse performance and support predictive maintenance.
Jaquet will also demonstrate its modular concept for railway speed sensors, which uses a four-step process to deliver robust sensors matched to their specific applications.
