Dureal™ and IDS work together to open first commercial filling station for AdBlue™ in Scandinavia
Dureal™ , a business unit of Univar N.V., the leading independent chemical distributor in the world, and IDS in Sweden, which operates diesel refuelling and service centres for commercial road haulage across Europe, have jointly established the first public tank facilities for AdBlue™ at the Volvo Truck Centre at Kungens Kurva, Sweden. Opening ceremonies of this first site took place on June 29, 2004. AdBlue filling stations were previously introduced in Austria and Germany earlier this year.
The co-operation with Univar makes it possible for IDS to be the first in Scandinavia to commercially offer AdBlue to operators of heavy diesel powered commercial vehicles. AdBlue is a high purity urea solution which enables heavy-duty diesel engines, in combination with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology now being adopted by major European truck and bus manufacturers, to comply with the stringent Euro IV (2005) and Euro V (2008) emission standards.
“Working jointly with Univar provides a convenient, one-stop way for truck and bus drivers to fill both diesel and urea at the same time, and we are pleased to be able to contribute to something that improves the environment,” says Anette Fredriksson, Deputy Manager IDS in Sweden.
“We see Sweden as the gateway to the rest of Europe,” says Jacques Voogt, Director Innovation and Development, Univar Europe. The country has always been on the forefront of new environmental legislation in Europe, with most other countries following in quick succession. This combined with two leading vehicle and engine manufacturers having their headquarters here; we believe that the start in Sweden will carry a positive and strong message across the continent.”
SCR cleans exhausts from unwanted emissions with the help of urea addition to exhaust gas after-treatment, using a 32.5 % urea solution in water. The Euro IV and Euro V directives impose stringent requirements on nitrous oxide (NOx) and particle (PM) emissions—PM is reduced 80 percent from EURO III engine levels and NOx is reduced by 30 percent. In addition, engines with particle-filtration in combination with urea treatment provide a improved fuel consumption compared to conventional EURO III engines.
