Big interest in Univar’s Dureal™ solution at Hanover IAA

Univar’s Dureal presentation attracted a large audience at the IAA Commercial Vehicles, the international trade fair for trucks and delivery vans that was held in Hanover, Germany, from 23 to 30 September. Truck dealers and transport companies from around Europe visited the stand in the central area of the fair to learn about Euro IV and Euro V exhaust emission standards, SCR catalytic converter technology, and the Dureal service solution for AdBlue tanks.

AdBlue is a reaction fluid used in SCR catalytic converter technology to ensure compliance of diesel engines with the stricter Euro IV and Euro V exhaust emission standards. The standards, which will apply to all newly registered vehicles, will come into place in 2005 and 2008. The fluid is injected into the exhaust system before the catalytic converter from a separate tank located under the vehicle. It converts harmful NOx into nitrogen (which naturally constitutes 80% of all atmospheric air) and water vapour without any deterioration in engine performance. On the contrary, the manufacturers of the SCR engines suggest that enhanced efficiency results in considerable fuel savings.

Wim Hoefman, Marketing & Sales Director Dureal explains: “The transport sector is already showing a great deal of interest in the Euro IV and V engines. This is also partially due to the cost of the proposed new truck tolls fares, the “LKW Maut”, which are due to come into effect on the German Autobahn in the near future. Many truck manufacturers have adopted the IAA for the introduction of their new diesel engines with SCR catalytic converter technology. AdBlue needs this type of catalytic converter to operate efficiently, and drivers will need to be able to fill it up somewhere.”

Univar does not only supply AdBlue, but also specially designed Dureal dispensing units. The units are fitted with a unique telemetric system that transmits a record of the amount of AdBlue present in the tank to Univar twice a day. Based on those records, the customer’s supply is updated automatically, thereby relieving them of that responsibility. The company also supplies emergency 5-litre packages to ensure that the driver is never stranded.
