Univar appoints Patrick Lammers Managing Director of its Dureal business

Univar N.V., one of the world’s leading independent distributors of industrial chemicals and providers of related specialty services, has announced the appointment of Patrick Lammers as Managing Director of its Dureal division based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Patrick Lammers appointment gives a solid, independent form to Dureal, which had previously been an internally managed project. Importantly it confirms Univar’s long-term commitment to deliver on the Dureal concept to the automotive and transport industries throughout Europe and globally.

Prior to taking up leadership of the new company on April 1, Lammers had spent 14 years with Royal Dutch/Shell Group in a range of engineering and commercial management roles. Latterly, with Shell International Oil Products, he was Regional Commercial Manager, Europe, Middle East and Africa for Shell Car Care International, a business with similar challenges to those facing Dureal in the short and medium term, and interfacing with the same prospective audiences.

Commenting on the appointment, John Phillpotts, President Univar Europe said: “Patrick has an established track record of success in managing and building new business enterprises with a strong customer focus. I have every confidence that his proven talent and industry knowledge will make a major contribution to the development of Dureal business in what is a highly competitive marketplace.”

While conceding the strength of some competitors, Lammers believes that Dureal has a unique advantage: “Unlike others we are not driven by production,” he says. “We are driven by customers’ needs, which are principally easy and reliable means to obtain, store and tank AdBlue. Dureal offers customers the most advanced and complete solution. Our units are fitted with telemetry that tracks and reports each dispenser’s supply of AdBlue, to help prevent out-of-stock situations. The system also monitors and controls tank temperature to protect the contents against freezing. Moreover, the units are prepared for credit card and other retail payment options. These features combine to make Dureal the most convenient solution for operators and we are already showing transport companies and service station owners that we can deliver to meet their needs.”

From idea to start-up phase and now into the professional implementation stage, the Dureal programme is moving up to the next level. Lammers is currently working with the Dureal team to fine-tune the business plan in order to speed up its implementation and strengthen the company’s market penetration in the near-term. “This includes building an organisation that is adequate to capitalise on the current market situation,” he explains. “Also determining how we can best use the Univar network, as this gives Dureal the potential for immediate reach into every market that it targets.”

Lammers, a Dutch national, has a degree in industrial engineering and post-graduate qualifications in sales and marketing.
