High precision volume metering with epicycloids vanes made of VICTREX® PEEK™

Excellent resistance to chemicals has made Victrex® PEEK™ polymer the material of choice for this Digmesa flowmeter used for the volume metering of lots of aggressive high viscosity media, even at high temperatures. Firma Digmesa AG based in Ipsach/CH markets the Flowmeter EPI, which is specially designed for the fluid volume measurement of high viscosity media such as syrup, oil or detergent concentrate. As a result of its special construction and thanks to its epicycloids vanes made of PEEK™ polymer, the Flowmeter EPI provides high precision operation and enables very accurate volume metering with minimum pressure loss.

A state-of-the-art high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) system featuring Victrex® PEEK™ polymer parts has been developed by Optimize Technologies of Oregon City, USA. The system’s patented high-pressure, low dispersion, quick-connect sealing interface relies on the polymer’s outstanding chemical resistance and mechanical performance in extreme pressure conditions.

Victrex, exhibiting for the first time at Offshore Europe, showcases Victrex® PEEK™ polymer application developments in the oil and gas industry at stand 1193

Victrex® PEEK™ polymer’s unique properties provide tailor-made performance in the most demanding environments. It has a high temperature resistance with a continuous use temperature of up to 260°C, while its mechanical properties are retained to temperatures of over 300°C. In addition the polymer has high mechanical properties, excellent creep and fatigue performance and exceptional chemical resistance. It is insoluble in all common solvents and resistant to a wide range of organic and inorganic liquids.

Cabasse, based in Brest, France, an established manufacturer of ultra-high yield speaker systems, has turned to Victrex® PEEK™ polymer for the spiders on its latest range of professional loudspeakers. The innovative use of the high performance polymer has allowed Cabasse to build on its reputation for “uncompromising acoustics” by significantly improving the power capacity of the transducer.

VICTREX® PEEK™ polymer - a leading material for the aerospace industry

This rotor is injection moulded in Victrex® PEEK™ polymer by Fluorten Srl of Italy (www.fluorten.com). The polymer combines outstanding mechanical performance with light weight and cost-effective manufacture. Materials used in the aerospace industry have to satisfy critical criteria. The trend towards larger aircraft with increased capacity is combined with weight restrictions and stricter safety standards which all contribute to the need for materials that are lighter in weight, have excellent mechanical properties and reduced hazards to passengers and crew in the event of fire.

Natural lubrication and high heat resistance with Victrex® PEEK™ polymer conveyor belt chains

Victrex® PEEK™ polymer slat band chains for conveyors provide consistent smooth running at high speeds, without lubrication, and withstand high temperatures and chemically aggressive environments. Yamakyu Chain Co. Ltd., Tokyo, has selected Victrex® PEEK™ polymer as the material of choice for its slat band chains for conveyor systems. The chains withstand exposure to temperatures as high as 250° C, run at a rate of 200 meter per minute without lubrication and provide inherent chemical resistance and antistatic properties.

Cook Manley of Stafford, USA, has developed the on-site-reparable MOPPET® compressor valve, featuring a Victrex® PEEK™ polymer seal ring. With its inherent long-term dimensional stability, flexural properties, fatigue and wear resistance over a wide range of temperatures and pressures, the polymer contributes to the valve’s proven success in petrochemical and natural gas installations.

Victrex® PEEK™ polymer extends service life in offshore systems

Victrex® PEEK™ polymer extends service life in offshore systems Single Buoy Moorings of Monaco, a major supplier of floating production, storage and off-loading systems, (FPSO's), has turned to PTFE-filled Victrex PEEK™ polymer to overcome the corrosion problems associated with bronze components. Designed and moulded by 3P/EGC of Texas, USA, the polymer bearings and thrust washers in the mooring systems, driving chain systems and swivels provide an extended service life, significant weight reduction and excellent load bearing capabilities.

When Star Dental of Pennsylvania, USA, was designing its low-speed Titan air motors to power a line of dental attachments, it needed a material for the sliding vanes and bushings that would not require lubrication. Star Dental chose a carbon fibre compounded grade of Victrex® PEEK™ polymer, a high-performance thermoplastic, because of its inherent lubricity and its ability to withstand repeated sterilisation.
