Greater Victrex presence at K 2001 reflects strong demand for PEEK™ polymer
Victrex plc is looking forward to welcoming visitors to its stand number 5A14 in Hall number 5 at the K 2001. Since the last K exhibition, the company has moved from strength to strength in the development of both new applications and new processing methods for PEEK™ polymer. With a larger exhibition presence, the company will showcase its strengths in leading edge application development across all key industries, including automotive, aerospace, telectronics, industrial, medical and food processing.
The company’s stand will exhibit innovative developments such as the metallisation of PEEK™. Companies are successfully using the process to plate PEEK™ polymer with copper, providing a tailor-made material for demanding electronic applications such as parts for moulded interconnect devices. In addition to its design freedom and ease of processing, PEEK™ provides the required level of mechanical and thermal performance to withstand extremely high soldering temperatures.
Victrex plc is also promoting the use of PEEK-COAT™ for powder coating applications where it provides cost-efficient corrosion protection and wear resistance, even in small volume production runs. Proven parts range from components in ultra pure water systems, chemical plants and off shore oil installations, to medical, pharmaceutical and food processing applications.
Supported by a larger European sales and marketing organisation, Victrex plc has actively expanded the markets for PEEK™ polymer by working closely with customers and end-users, and by focusing on pioneering product development backed by increased production capabilities.
“In the first half of this financial year we have seen record demand for PEEK™ polymer, with a 40% increase over the same period in the previous year”, comments Victrex Commercial Director, Paul Syms. “In order to keep our pledge to meet customers’ needs in terms of material supply, we are accelerating capacity expansion plans at our headquarter plant located at Thornton Cleveleys, UK”.
PEEK™ polymer is a high performance plastic with a unique combination of properties, which include exceptional chemical, wear, electrical and temperature resistance, as well as dimensional stability and numerous processing capabilities.
Victrex plc, which has its sales, technical and production headquarters at Thornton Cleveleys in Lancashire, UK, had a turnover of more than £58m in the last financial year. The company exports 98 percent of its VICTREX® PEEK™ polymer output to OEMs in the automotive, industrial, medical, food and electronics market sectors in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific.
