SABIC Launches Portfolio of Antimicrobial Compounds at MD&M West to Help Customers Enhance Safety of Healthcare Applications
BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands, February 13, 2013 - According to a 2011 report by the World Health Organization, in 2002 in the United States alone approximately 99,000 deaths were linked to healthcare associated infections (HCAIs).¹ Here at MD&M West (booth #1701), SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business today introduced powerful new tools to help medical device manufacturers reduce HCAIs among patients and clinicians. SABIC’s nine new antimicrobial compounds featuring silver technology have been tested for log reduction values – the level of microbes eliminated from a surface – according to the ISO 22196-2007 protocol. They comprise one of the broadest antimicrobial portfolios in the industry and offer distinct advantages over off-the-shelf antimicrobial concentrates combined with third-party resins.

Belden bringt neue E/A-Module der Marke Lumberg Automation für PROFINET und Ethernet/IP auf den Markt „Trend im Maschinenbau geht zu Ethernet“
Schalksmühle - 12. Februar 2013 - Belden Inc., ein weltweit führender Anbieter von Signalübertragungslösungen für unternehmenskritische Anwendungen, bietet mit seinem Lumberg Automation-Produktprogramm in der EMEA-Region vielseitige Connectivity-Lösungen an, mit denen sich beispielsweise Sensoren und Aktoren an dezentrale E/As oder Steuerungen anbinden lassen. Das war bisher eine Domäne der Feldbusse, doch mittlerweile werden dafür zunehmend Ethernet oder spezielle Standards, die auf diesem Protokoll basieren, eingesetzt. „Diesen Trend verzeichnen wir insbesondere im Maschinenbau“, sagt Andrej Lorkovic, Director Product Management der Connectivity-Division von Belden. Um auch dort eine effiziente Vernetzung zu ermöglichen, wird das Leistungsspektrum derzeit um aktive E/A-Module, die PROFINET und Ethernet/IP unterstützen, erweitert. „Damit decken wir die beiden wichtigsten Netzwerk-Standards für die Automatisierung ab“, so der 42-Jährige, der seit 2012 das Produktmanagement verantwortet. Bereits Anfang dieses Jahres sind entsprechende E/A-Module aus der LioN-M-Familie auf den Markt gebracht worden. Eine ruggedized Version mit rundum vergossenem Metallgehäuse und Schutzart IP67 wurde vor kurzem vorgestellt. Außerdem denke man auch über Module für EtherCat und Safety I/O nach.

SABIC and London’s Royal College of Art Team Up to Launch ‘VISIcON’ Automotive Lighting Program and Design Competition
LONDON, United Kingdom, February 11, 2013 - SABIC has announced the launch of a three-month research program and competition called VISIcON with London’s prestigious Royal College of Art (RCA) Vehicle Design programme. Under VISIcON, more than 30 post-graduate students from the department are researching and exploring how SABIC’s high-performance thermoplastic lighting materials and LEXAN™ polycarbonate (PC) glazing technologies can be applied in practical and creative ways to enhance the lighting and illumination of today’s and tomorrow’s vehicles. SABIC and the RCA previously collaborated in a 2005/2006 program called PLASTicon in which students developed car design visions based on innovative uses of plastics. SABIC’s sponsorship of VISIcON with the RCA speaks to the company’s commitment to continually innovate and help spark the creation of concepts with future global vehicle designers.
