ECMSA back on the European Map
Brussels, December 6th 2004 European Chemical Marketing & Strategy Association (ECMSA) president Fred du Plessis addressed association members at the 2004 AGM. Originally established in 1962 as ECMRA (European Chemical Market Research Association) and renamed in 2000, ECMSA as been greatly impacted by the restructuring and consolidation within the chemical industry over the last several years.

Borealis polypropylene chosen for heating and air conditioning pipe installation in La Scala refit
Milan, Italy’s world-famous La Scala opera house will reopen on December 7 after the completion of a massive renovation project that has kept its curtains closed for almost three years. Spectators will be kept in more comfort than ever before, thanks in part to the installation of a new heating and air conditioning system that uses plastic pipes and fittings made from Borealis polypropylene. The existing metal pipe installation has been entirely replaced.

Los fabricantes de componentes para automoción se benefician ya del Arnite® TV8 260, un nuevo tereftalato de polibutileno (PBT) con un 30% de fibra de vidrio, ideal para las carcasas de los engranajes que accionan los limpiaparabrisas traseros de los coches todo-terreno y familiares. Comparado con los materiales alternativos convencionales de fundición o de chapa metálica, las carcasas de Arnite ocupan menos espacio, necesitan menos piezas y menos manipulado para su montaje y permiten realizar una mayor variedad de diseños para adaptarse a las líneas más complicadas y de mínimo espacio de los vehículos actuales. Además de reducir el ciclo, la menor densidad del Arnite disminuye el consumo de material en un 10 - 13% en comparación con otros termoplásticos. “Arnite proporciona una excelente rigidez y gran resistencia al impacto con entalla” afirma Richard Frissen, Director de Desarrollo de Aplicaciones, Automoción, DSM Engineering Plastics. “Hasta los detalles más pequeños reducen los gastos generales, como los contactos eléctricos incorporados en el moldeo, lo cual no es factible con metales”.
