Terumo BCT's Mirasol shows efficacy against virus causing COVID-19 in plasma and platelets
Data from a new study suggests that a medical device that uses vitamin B2 and ultraviolet light for treating human blood products is effective against the virus that causes COVID-19. The study results, generated by Terumo BCT in collaboration with top researchers from Colorado State University, have been accepted for publication by Vox Sanguinis, a peer-reviewed medical journal covering hematology.

Terumo BCT, Inc. y Marker Therapeutics AG han anunciado hoy que la Administración de Medicamentos y Alimentos de los EE.UU. (FDA) ha emitido una Autorización de Uso de Emergencia (EUA, por sus siglas en inglés) para el uso del Sistema de Aféresis Spectra Optia® de Terumo BCT combinado con la Columna de Adsorción D2000 de Marker Therapeutics para tratar a pacientes mayores de 18 años que hayan dado positivo de la enfermedad por coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) y estén ingresados en unidades de cuidados intensivos (UCI) con insuficiencia respiratoria confirmada o inminente, a fin de reducir los niveles de citoquinas proinflamatorias.
