URMOND (NL), 9 October 2007 - DSM Dyneema, inventor and maker of ultra-strong, lightweight Dyneema® polyethylene fiber, and TenCate Advanced Armour, manufacturer of insert plates, have combined their expertise to develop best-in-class fiber-only (monolithic) inserts to be used in hard ballistic body armor. These inserts, which feature proprietary technology from TenCate and Dyneema® HB50 UniDirectional (UD) technology from DSM Dyneema, result in the lower weight of the total body armor, which allows the possibility of adding additional protection to other body areas.

Urmond (NL), October 5, 2007 - DSM Dyneema today announced that Composix Co., a leading US manufacturer of vehicle armor, has selected its product Dyneema® HB26 to fulfill an order from a major US Department of Defense contractor for a high-end armor system. Dyneema® HB26 unidirectional (UD) bullet-resistant composite offers a unique combination of light weight for enhanced vehicle mobility, maneuverability, and excellent ballistic performance versus new, and emerging unconventional threats such as IEDs and EFPs. Composix will produce hard ballistic armor panels with Dyneema® for about 1000 vehicles.

After a difficult period of no growth, composites producers are optimistic about the future. Healthy business in traditional segments like marine has brought new growth in the last two years. According to the European Composites Industry Association (EuCIA) investment in new applications and a targeted approach to new markets will make this growth sustainable.

URMOND (NL), 27 September 2007 - DSM Dyneema today announced that the Hong Kong police force is using body armor made with Dyneema® SB21 unidirectional (UD) composite for protection against steel core ammunition. The bullet-resistant vests are the first soft ballistics to meet the required level of protection of the Hong Kong police force; conventional vests utilize hard-pressed panels or metal. Dyneema® SB21 UD offers a unique combination of stopping power, light weight and flexibility to this body armor, which incorporates ballistic packs manufactured by Chongqing Jinguan New Technology Co. under the close supervision of Techcom Security Technology Limited of Hong Kong. Intellectual property protection has been obtained to guard this unique body armor.
