SABIC launches new UDMAX™ thermoplastic composite tape featuring high strength for pipe and pressure vessel reinforcement
SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, is introducing here at JEC World 2018 in stand L84, hall 5, new UDMAX™ GPE 46-70 tape, the newest addition to its expanding portfolio of UDMAX™ unidirectional fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composite tape products. Commercially available worldwide, the new glass-filled high-density polyethylene grade is designed for reinforcing industrial applications, such as pipes and pressure vessels, offering unmatched tensile strength. This novel product has one of the highest glass content available in the industry today combined with optimal thermoplastic resin impregnation, thanks to SABIC’s proprietary high-pressure fiber impregnation technology (HPFIT™). By using UDMAX™ tape to reinforce oil, gas and water pipes, boilers and storage tanks, customers can significantly increase mechanical performance while reducing weight and help improve corrosion resistance in the most demanding environments.

EconCore presents latest developments in continuous production of high performance thermoplastic honeycombs for composites at JEC World 2018
EconCore is extending the capabilities of its innovative ThermHex technology for production of high-performance lightweight thermoplastic honeycomb core materials and sandwich panels. The company, which already licenses the technology for production of polypropylene honeycombs, is now able to produce honeycombs from high performance thermoplastics (HPT). A further development enables the integrated production of Organosandwich preforms with continuous fibre-reinforced skins.
SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, is featuring here at JEC World 2018, several new breakthrough innovations in materials and manufacturing designed to drive broader adoption of strong, lightweight thermoplastic composites across the automotive, aerospace, consumer electronics and energy industries. Specifically, the company is displaying in stand L84, Hall 5, its growing portfolio of continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite (CFRTC) tapes; releasing the results of an externally certified life cycle analysis of a passenger car side door using this material; and previewing a revolutionary, fully automated, large-scale production system for composite laminates that optimizes quality, speed, flexibility and cost-effectiveness. Moreover, SABIC will be exhibiting at JEC’s Innovation Planet a new application concept for the aircraft industry with a thermoplastic composite seatback featuring a hollow channel design.
ELIX Polymers, a leading producer of ABS polymers and blends, says important improvements to surface finish are being made by using Roctool’s Heat and Cool technology to mould its ELIX Ultra HH4115HI ABS/polycarbonate blend. The company recently completed a series of tests using this technology, carried out in line with its strategy of providing tailor-made solutions and service to companies processing its specialist materials.
EconCore’s continuous process for producing high performance lightweight thermoplastic honeycomb cores for composites is set to be a crowd-puller at JEC World 2018 in Paris on March 6 to 8. Its ThermHex process meets the growing need for replacing complex, heavy and expensive parts in highly demanding applications across industries. On Stand R73 in Hall 6, EconCore will present results of new development and tests on honeycombs made in modified polycarbonates, polyamide 66 and polyphenylene sulfide. The work is being carried out in its newly refurbished R&D facilities in Leuven, Belgium.
