Diab selects SABIC’s new LNP™ COLORCOMP™ compound to enhance foams for the core of wind turbine blades
Diab Group, a world leader in sandwich composite solutions, chose SABIC’s new LNP™ COLORCOMP™ compound using nano technology to reduce weight and improve mechanical properties of sandwich structures with polyethylene terephthalate (PET) foams, which are used as the core material of wind turbine blades. The Swedish converter selected the breakthrough SABIC compound over standard nucleators for production of its Divinycell PY PET foam core series. By reducing the foam’s cell size by a factor of up to two, while maintaining the same density and decreasing the cell size dispersity, LNP COLORCOMP compound helps enable the final part to be lighter and more efficient in use. These improvements to the core foam material can help designers create new, longer blades that address increasingly stringent standards for precision, weight and consistent quality, and contribute to greater overall energy generation.

Belden Announces Acquisition of OTN Systems N.V.
Belden Inc. (NYSE: BDC), a leading global supplier of specialty networking solutions, today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire privately held OTN Systems N.V., a leading provider of automation networking infrastructure solutions, for approximately $71 million, net of cash acquired. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter 2021, subject to customary closing conditions, and will be financed with cash on hand, which was approximately $500 million at the end of 2020. Separately, the Company increased its revenue and EPS guidance for the fourth quarter 2020.
SABIC today introduced LNP™ COLORCOMP™ WQ117945 compound, a breakthrough material based on advanced nanotechnology that facilitates efficient production of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) foams for core materials in sandwich structures. This new compound improves control over nucleation and cell growth, resulting in decreased cell size and uniform, narrower cell size distribution. These attributes can reduce the foam’s weight by minimizing resin uptake in sandwich structures. It can also potentially improve shear strength/strain properties for better fatigue performance. Enhancing PET foams with SABIC’s new LNP COLORCOMP compound can address the evolving needs of multiple industries, including marine, building and construction, packaging and wind energy.
