Urmond (NL), February 23 – During the international triennial conference Aquaculture 2007, organized by the World Aquaculture Society (WAS), DSM will showcase its innovative product Dyneema®, the world’s strongest fiber™. This ultra-strong polyethylene fiber provides various benefits to the aquaculture sector and will be displayed on stand 540.

DSM Dyneema is pleased to announce that GMG, the manufacturing division of Cooke Aquaculture, a Canadian leader in salmon farming, has selected nets made with ultra-strong Dyneema® fiber to support the company’s expansion into the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador. Cooke’s Cold Ocean Salmon division has ordered mesh for twenty 150m containment nets made with Dyneema®, manufactured by Badinotti (Italy). The nets, which will be constructed in Canada by GMG, feature the exceptionally strong, lightweight Dyneema® fiber, which makes them easier to handle, prevents fish escapes and extends net life.

The recent approval for use of Dyneema® fibers in gloves for the food processing industry1 coupled with membership of the Dyneema® licensee program allowed Ansell Healthcare to convert to high-performance Dyneema® fibers for cut resistant glove applications. In the Polar Bear® Paw Gard® gloves from Ergo Products, a brand of the Ansell Healthcare group, the ultra strong fiber from DSM Dyneema combines up to ASTM-ISEA Level 5 cut resistance to deliver the superior protection of a heavyweight glove or sleeve with the close, comfortable fit of a lightweight. The Polar Bear® Paw Gard® gloves with Dyneema® can be seen Ansell Healthcare’s booth (# 3333) at the the National Safety Council Annual Congress & Expo in San Diego November 6-8, 2006.

The recent approval for use of Dyneema® fibers in gloves for the food processing industry1 has now commercially been adopted by the market. In the new, highly cut resistant Tuffshield Evolution™ gloves from Perfect Fit, a brand of the Bacou-Dalloz group, the ultra strong fiber from DSM is used in a new, patented composite yarn which combines level five cut resistance with anti-bacterial performance. The official market introduction of Tuffshield Evolution™ with Dyneema® takes place at the Expoprotection trade show in Paris, November 7-10, 2006.

Leiden, The Netherlands - Avery Dennison has developed a new hotmelt adhesive for its self-adhesive labelstocks specifically formulated for cool-temperature air-blown label dispensing, particularly in the food packaging industry. Fasson S2065 combines high tack with strong ultimate adhesion characteristics on a variety of substrates -- including apolar films, sausage casings, stretch PVC and PE and modified atmosphere films -- at temperatures as low as 1-10 deg C.
