Ghent, Belgium – 5 July, 2010 – Total Petrochemicals USA, Inc., a leading polypropylene (PP) producer headquartered in Houston, and Milliken Chemical, a division of Milliken & Company, collaborated on a new metallocene PP resin clarified with Milliken’s Millad® NX8000 technology. The new material, Total Petrochemicals’ Lumicene® M3382MZ polypropylene, produces thermoformed parts with superior clarity and gloss and excellent side wall stiffness. The resin is ideal for deli containers, drinking cups, lids, domes and food service trays when high clarity and stiffness are important. The combination of Milliken’s high-performance clarifier and Total’s proprietary metallocene technology will help drive expanded use of low-density PP as a cost-effective and environmentally responsible replacement for other clear plastic materials.

BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands – March 18, 2010 – SABIC Innovative Plastics’ Ultem* polyetherimide (PEI) resin turned up the heat to support the successful U.S. launch of Groupe SEB®’s T-fal® ActiFry® low-fat deep fryer. In the face of toughening food contact regulations for the appliance’s fryer basket in the United States, the French manufacturer turned to SABIC Innovative Plastics for a material offering regulatory compliance as well as color customization, excellent high-temperature resistance and the freedom to integrate parts for system cost reduction. As the only available material meeting all these requirements under a tight launch window, Ultem resin enabled Groupe SEB to design an ActiFry model appropriate for the U.S. market.
