Charlotte, (USA), June 7, 2012 –Performance Packaging, a member of Clariant’s BU Functional Materials, highlighted its industry-leading solutions for pharmaceutical packaging at the first-ever Pharmapack North America event in Philadelphia, Pa., on May 22-24. The company spotlighted its broad portfolio of desiccant canisters for moisture control in pharmaceutical packaging and its innovative IDC® Integrated Desiccant Closure, a pharmaceutical cap combining tamper-evident, child-resistant and twist-off functionalities with a built-in desiccant. Also, Genevieve Kuhn, R&D Group Leader, presented a technical session titled, “Moisture, Oxygen & Shelf Life: Keys to Packaging Performance to Enhance Quality of Patient Care.” Performance Packaging is a global leader in the design and manufacture of controlled atmosphere packaging solutions.

First quarter sales up 18% in local currencies and 13% in CHF, driven by acquisitions
EBITDA margin before exceptional items at 12.1%, compared to 16.1% in the previous-year period, reflecting the expected soft start to 2012, with lower demand compared to the high basis of the previous year
Continuing growth in non-cyclical businesses while cyclical and structurally challenged businesses faced similar trading conditions to Q4 2011, improving towards the end of the quarter
Outlook for 2012 confirmed: Clariant expects further sales growth in local currencies and sustained profitability in 2012 as the global economy is expected to strengthen progressively in the course of the year.

Azelis to represent CP Kelco in Russia

Azelis Azelis announces that they have been appointed distributor by leading hydrocolloid producer CP Kelco C&I Division, to service the Personal Care, Pharmaceutical and selected industrial sectors in Russia. The agreement commenced on April 1st. Both companies have enjoyed a successful relationship for many years and the new arrangement supplements existing agreements in France, UK, Spain, Portugal, Bulgaria and Turkey.
