Bauser, an injection molding company specialized in precision parts located in Wehingen, Germany, has successfully introduced a production process for automotive gears, using DSM Engineering Plastics Stanyl PA46 annealing technology. The company was the first plastic gear supplier in Germany to jointly commercially introduce the technology, almost 2 years ago.

Philips, the world’s leading producer of energy-efficient lighting solutions, has introduced a new LED lamp with a difference. Based on a joint development with DSM, the Philips MASTER LED MR16 retrofit lamp is the first high-power LED application in which the aluminum cover is replaced with a thermally conductive plastic – Stanyl® – to control the heat. Stanyl also offers the additional benefits of flexibility in design, exceptional durability and weight reduction. Going forward, this sustainable solution may be applied across Philips’ LED retrofit lamp range.

DSM Engineering Plastics has announced that Akulon PA6 resin has been selected by various OEMs and Tiers for various applications and feasibility studies for oil sumps and oil pans use in under-the-hood. Currently various engine and road tests are ongoing. Final design validation of Akulon PA6 in the oil sumps and oil pans is expected for the end of 2009.

Battice, Belgium, April 2, 2009 – 3B, a leading manufacturer of fibreglass products for the reinforcement of thermoplastics and thermosets, today announced an innovative new chopped strand product aimed at helping OEMs, compounders and moulders expand the application of reinforced polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) compounds. 3B’s new DS 2200-13P chopped strand, made from Advantex® boron-free E-glass, is being launched in conjunction with the 2009 JEC Composites Show in Paris. The new product offers a unique combination of properties that enable reinforced PP and PE to replace metal and other reinforced thermoplastics in applications such as automotive components and appliances that demand exceptional mechanical and aging performance. DS 2200-13P chopped strand is available globally.

Lyon, France – 02 April 2009 – Rhodia and Millet announced their intention to develop “closed-loop” recycling flows for polyamide. The two companies have launched an initial project aimed at recycling used mountain climbing rope into engineering plastic materials for the manufacture of mountain sports equipment.
